1 | # Contributor Code of Conduct
2 |
3 | ## Our Pledge
4 |
5 | In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as
6 | contributors and maintainers pledge to making participation in our project and
7 | our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body
8 | size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience,
9 | education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race,
10 | religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
11 |
12 | ## Our Standards
13 |
14 | Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment
15 | include:
16 |
17 | * Be friendly and welcoming
18 | * Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
19 | * Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
20 | - Interpret the arguments of others in good faith, do not seek to disagree.
21 | - When we do disagree, try to understand why.
22 | * Focusing on what is best for the community
23 | * Showing empathy towards other community members
24 | * Be patient
25 | - Remember that people have varying communication styles and that not everyone is using their native language. (Meaning and tone can be lost in translation.)
26 | * Be thoughtful
27 | - Productive communication requires effort. Think about how your words will be interpreted.
28 | - Remember that sometimes it is best to refrain entirely from commenting.
29 | * Avoid destructive behavior:
30 | - Derailing: stay on topic; if you want to talk about something else, start a new conversation.
31 | - Unconstructive criticism: don't merely decry the current state of affairs; offer—or at least solicit—suggestions as to how things may be improved.
32 | - Snarking (pithy, unproductive, sniping comments)
33 | - Discussing potentially offensive or sensitive issues; this all too often leads to unnecessary conflict.
34 | - Microaggressions: brief and commonplace verbal, behavioral and environmental indignities that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative slights and insults to a person or group.
35 |
36 |
37 | Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:
38 |
39 | * The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or
40 | advances
41 | * Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
42 | * Public or private harassment
43 | * Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or electronic
44 | address, without explicit permission
45 | * Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a
46 | professional setting
47 |
48 | People are complicated. You should expect to be misunderstood and to misunderstand others; when this inevitably occurs, resist the urge to be defensive or assign blame. Try not to take offense where no offense was intended. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Even if the intent was to provoke, do not rise to it. It is the responsibility of all parties to de-escalate conflict when it arises.
49 |
50 | ## Our Responsibilities
51 |
52 | Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable
53 | behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in
54 | response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.
55 |
56 | Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or
57 | reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions
58 | that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to ban temporarily or
59 | permanently any contributor for other behaviors that they deem inappropriate,
60 | threatening, offensive, or harmful.
61 |
62 | ## Scope
63 |
64 | This Code of Conduct applies both within project spaces and in public spaces
65 | when an individual is representing the project or its community. Examples of
66 | representing a project or community include using an official project e-mail
67 | address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed
68 | representative at an online or offline event. Representation of a project may be
69 | further defined and clarified by project maintainers.
70 |
71 | ## Enforcement
72 |
73 | Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be
74 | reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at
75 | help@api.video.
76 | All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.
77 |
78 | All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the
79 | reporter of any incident.
80 |
81 | ## Enforcement Guidelines
82 |
83 | Community leaders will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining
84 | the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:
85 |
86 | ### 1. Correction
87 |
88 | **Community Impact**: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed
89 | unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.
90 |
91 | **Consequence**: A private, written warning from community leaders, providing
92 | clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the
93 | behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.
94 |
95 | ### 2. Warning
96 |
97 | **Community Impact**: A violation through a single incident or series of
98 | actions.
99 |
100 | **Consequence**: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No
101 | interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with
102 | those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This
103 | includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels
104 | like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent
105 | ban.
106 |
107 | ### 3. Temporary Ban
108 |
109 | **Community Impact**: A serious violation of community standards, including
110 | sustained inappropriate behavior.
111 |
112 | **Consequence**: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public
113 | communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or
114 | private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction
115 | with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period.
116 | Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.
117 |
118 | ### 4. Permanent Ban
119 |
120 | **Community Impact**: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community
121 | standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an
122 | individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.
123 |
124 | **Consequence**: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the
125 | community.
126 |
127 | ### Reporting an incident
128 |
129 | Incidents that violate the Code of Conduct are extremely damaging to api.video, and they will not be tolerated. The silver lining is that, in many cases, these incidents present a chance for the offenders, and the teams at large, to grow, learn, and become better.
130 |
131 | > The following should be handled by a line manager who has been informed of the incident
132 |
133 | Try to get as much of the incident in written form. The important information to gather include the following:
134 |
135 | - Name of the participant doing the harassing
136 | - The location in which the incident occurred
137 | - The behavior that was in violation
138 | - The approximate time of the behavior
139 | - The circumstances surrounding the incident
140 | - Other people involved in the incident
141 |
142 | The line manager who is handling the reported offence should find out the following:
143 |
144 | - What happened?
145 | - Are we doing anything about it?
146 | - Who is doing those things?
147 | - When are they doing them?
148 |
149 | After the above has been identified and discussed, have an appropriate line manager communicate with the alleged harasser. Make sure to inform them of what has been reported about them.
150 |
151 | Allow the alleged harasser to give their side of the story. After this point, if the report stands, let the alleged harasser know what actions will be taken against them.
152 |
153 | Some things for the staff to consider when dealing with Code of Conduct offenders:
154 |
155 | - Warning the harasser to cease their behaviour and that any further reports will result in sanctions
156 | - Requiring that the harasser avoid any interaction with, and physical proximity to, their victim until a resolution or course of action has been decided upon
157 | - Requiring that the harasser not volunteer for future events your organisation runs (either indefinitely or for a certain time period)
158 | - Depending on the severity/details of the incident, removing a harasser from membership of api.video organisation
159 |
160 | Give accused staff members a place to appeal to if there is one, but in the meantime the report stands. Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to encourage an apology from the harasser.
161 |
162 | It is very important how we deal with the incident publicly. Our policy is to make sure that everyone aware of the initial incident is also made aware that it is not according to policy and that official action has been taken - while still respecting the privacy of individual staff members. When speaking to individuals (those who are aware of the incident, but were not involved with the incident) about the incident it is a good idea to keep the details out.
163 |
164 | Depending on the incident, the head of responsible department, or designate, may decide to make one or more public announcements. If necessary, this will be done with a short announcement either during the plenary and/or through other channels. No one other than the head of responsible department or someone delegated authority from them should make any announcements. No personal information about either party will be disclosed as part of this process.

13 | the copyright owner that is granting the License.
14 |
15 | "Legal Entity" shall mean the union of the acting entity and all
16 | other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common
17 | control with that entity. For the purposes of this definition,

19 | direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or
20 | otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the
21 | outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.
22 |
23 | "You" (or "Your") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity
24 | exercising permissions granted by this License.
25 |
26 | "Source" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications,
27 | including but not limited to software source code, documentation
28 | source, and configuration files.
29 |
30 | "Object" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical
31 | transformation or translation of a Source form, including but
32 | not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation,
33 | and conversions to other media types.
34 |
35 | "Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or
36 | Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a
37 | copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work
38 | (an example is provided in the Appendix below).
39 |
40 | "Derivative Works" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object
41 | form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the
42 | editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications
43 | represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes
44 | of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain
45 | separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of,
46 | the Work and Derivative Works thereof.
47 |
48 | "Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including
49 | the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions
50 | to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally
51 | submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner
52 | or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of
53 | the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted"
54 | means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent
55 | to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to

60 | designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution."
61 |
62 | "Contributor" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity
63 | on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and
64 | subsequently incorporated within the Work.
65 |
66 | 2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
67 | this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
68 | worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
69 | copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of,
70 | publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the
71 | Work and such Derivative Works in Source or Object form.
72 |
73 | 3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of
74 | this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
75 | worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable
76 | (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made,
77 | use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work,
78 | where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable
79 | by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their
80 | Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s)
81 | with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You
82 | institute patent litigation against any entity (including a
83 | cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work
84 | or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct
85 | or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses
