22 | 23 | Microsoft will be soon removing the Disk Clean-up Tool (Cleanmgr.exe) from Windows 10 PCs. 24 | It is a Windows system tool which lets you delete the unwanted files cluttered in your PC thereby freeing some space on your disk drive. Disk Cleanup isn’t going away immediately but is on its way out the door. Microsoft says it will keep the utility around for compatibility reasons. 25 | 26 | Whatever version of Windows you’re using, Disk Cleanup has always worked the same way. 27 | Right-click a drive, select “Properties,” and then click the “Disk Cleanup” button to launch it. It still works the same way on Windows 10 today. You can also just launch it from the Start menu or run the cleanmgr.exe program. 28 | 29 | When Microsoft says Disk Cleanup is “deprecated” starting with the October 2018 update, that means it’s been replaced by a new tool. Windows 10 version 1803 new build came up with the Storage Sense functionality earlier this year and it works more or less same as the Disk Cleanup Tool. 30 | 31 | The downside of Storage Sense is the massive UI. This size is why I decided to make Cleanmgr+ to circumvent that massive UI of Storage Sense but still provide a utility that is true to the original. 32 | 33 | Cleanmgr+ comes with better and modern UI when compared to the current Disk Cleanup and with an additional feature set (hence the +), such as the feeding with Custom scripts, i.e., to clean a Browser cache, etc. 34 | 35 | 36 | 37 | There are many Disk Cleaner utilities out there, but the goal with this one was to create a tool that uses Windows own resources ensuring that only system-compliant actions are performed. 38 | 39 | #### More Information about Cleanmgr+ can be found on the [official website](https://www.builtbybel.com/ms-apps/cleanmgrplus) 40 | 41 | #### Cleanmgr+ is closed source, but you can collaborate and contribute i.e., custom script files, localizations, report issues or maintain a documentation. 42 | 43 | ## Download 44 | * https://github.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/releases 45 | 46 | ## Other Resources 47 | #### [Community scripts](https://github.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/scripts/scripts.md) 48 | 49 | #### [Localizations](https://github.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/locales/locale.md) 50 | 51 | #### [Themes](https://github.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/bin/packages/ui.ini) 52 | 53 | ## Suggesting features / providing feedback 54 | You can also reach out to me on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/builtbybel) 55 | 56 | with ❤︎ © [builtbybel](https://www.builtbybel.com "Good apps are as little apps as possible"). 57 |

| [Disk Cleanup] 9 | Windows Update Cleanup=This will clean-up files and folders left by Windows Updates. This Task will temporarily restart the Windows Update service (wuauserv). Recommendation: Cleanup 10 | 11 | Windows Component Store=The component store (WinSxS folder) contains all the components that make-up Windows to allow you operate your system. Windows uses this folder to store files that are needed for your Windows installation, as well as backups or updates to those files. This will clean-up Component Store (WinSxS folder) using /StartComponentCleanup with Dism Command. Recommendation: This switch leaves an option to uninstall the latest updates and roll back to older versions. You can reduce size with this option. 12 | 13 | Downloaded Program Files=This will clean-up ActiveX controls and Java applets used by Internet Explorer. They are temporarily stored on your hard disk. This folder is essentially useless — ActiveX is an extremely dated technology that’s full of security holes, and Java applets are rare. Recommendation: Cleanup 14 | 15 | Temporary Internet Files=This will clean-up webpages stored on your hard disk for quick viewing (cache). Your personalized settings for webpages will be left intact. Recommendation: Cleanup 16 | 17 | DirectX Shader Cache=This will clean-up files created by the graphics system which can speed up application load time and improve responsiveness. They will be re-generated as needed. Recommendation: Cleanup 18 | 19 | Delivery Optimization Files=This Service is a part of Windows 10 that uses your computer's bandwidth to upload app and Windows updates to other computers. This will clean-up data that's no longer needed, except for uploading to other PCs. This Task will temporarily restart the Delivery Optimization (dosvc) and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (bits). Recommendation: If the feature is disabled, you can safely cleanup these files, otherwise Cleanmgr+ will stop the service for the cleanup. 20 | 21 | Recycle Bin=This will clean-up files you have deleted from your computer. These files are not permanently removed until you empty the Recycle Bin. Recommendation: Check before cleanup 22 | 23 | Temporary Files=Programs frequently store data in a temporary folder. This will clean-up all temporary files. Do not delete these files after installing updates or new programs that require a reboot. Sometimes these processes use temp files to finish installation. Recommendation: Check before cleanup 24 | 25 | Thumbnails=Windows keeps a copy of all your picture, video and document thumbnails so they can be display quickly when you open a folder. If you clean-up these thumbnails, they will be automatically recreated as needed. Recommendation: Cleanup, as they are always recreated. 26 | 27 | Internet History= Every time you go online from your computer, your browser — whether you use Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or something else — saves a copy of every page that you visit. Through tabulating URLs, Internet history facilitates a quick reference or lookup of previously visited pages. Recommendation: Cleanup 28 | 29 | Offline Web Pages=You can save web pages for “offline” browsing in Internet Explorer. Your “Offline Webpages” are web pages that have specifically been saved for offline use, and checking this will clean-up them. Recommendation: Cleanup 30 | 31 | Game Statistic Files=This will clean-up random statistics accumulated by Windows Games when you play them and stored in files. Recommendation: Cleanup 32 | 33 | Clipboard=The clipboard stores all kinds of information (text, images, videos, files including shortcuts or folders) that you have copied from one place, and you plan to use in another place. Recommendation: Cleanup 34 | 35 | Prefetch Data=Prefetch is a feature that stores specific data about the application you run in order to help them start faster. The Prefetch folder is self cleaning at 128 entries by Windows. Recommendation: Cleanup the prefetch files during periodic maintenance. 36 | 37 | Recent Documents=All over Windows, you'll see menus with the most recently used items for a given application. Maybe it's a document you recently opened, or some videos you recently watched. This will clean-up recent items and frequent places. Recommendation: Cleanup 38 | 39 | Run (in Start Menu)=When you open the Run Window (Win+R), you can tap on the arrow to open a drop down list. This list contains all the command that you have entered previously. This is called the Run history. Recommendation: Cleanup 40 | 41 | User File History=File History was first introduced in Windows 8, and has been improved in Windows 10. Windows stores file versions temporarily on this disk before copying them to the designated File History disk. Over time, you'll have a complete history of your files. If the originals are lost, damaged, or deleted, you can restore them. You can also browse and restore different versions of your files. Recommendation: Check before cleanup. If you delete these files, you will lose some file history. 42 | 43 | DNS Cache=When you access a website, your computer is essentially requesting web data from another computer on the Internet. It uses the Domain Name System (DNS). Whenever Windows learns of a certain route — e.g. from your computer to Mirinsoft servers — it temporarily remembers that route in its DNS cache. However, when the DNS route changes, your cached copy of the route becomes outdated, and this can cause problems (like not being able to load a website. Clearing the DNS cache is absolutely harmless. Recommendation: Cleanup 44 | 45 | BranchCache=BranchCache allows computers at a local branch office to cache data from a file or web server on a WAN (wide area network). The data can be cached either on the client computers, in distributed cache mode, or on a local server, in hosted cache mode. By caching data locally, there is a reduction in WAN traffic and applications often respond faster due to using local files instead of retrieving them over the WAN. 46 | 47 | Print Queue=This will clean-up all print queues. If you’re doing this on a server, it’s a good idea to first make sure there are no other print jobs being processed for any of the other printers on the server because doing this step will delete those jobs also. Recommendation: Check before cleanup 48 | 49 | Active Setup Temp Folders=These files should no longer be needed. They were originally created by a setup program that is no longer running. Recommendation: Cleanup 50 | 51 | Windows Upgrade Log Files=When you upgrade Windows, the System creates log files. These log files can Help identify and troubleshot problems that occur. If you don't have any upgrade-related problems, feel free to clean-up these. Recommendation: Cleanup 52 | 53 | System Error Memory Dump Files=When Windows crashes, known as a - blue screen of death - the system creates a memory dump file. This can help identify exactly what went wrong. However, these files can use a large amount of space. If you don't plan on trying to troubleshoot any blue screens of death you can clean-up these files. Recommendation: Cleanup, very large 54 | 55 | System Archived Windows Error ...=When a program crashes, Windows creates an error report and sends it to Microsoft. These error reports can help you identify and fix problems. Archived error reports have been sent to Microsoft. This will clean-up these, but you won’t be able to view reports about program crashes. Recommendation: Cleanup 56 | 57 | System Queued Windows Error ...=This will clean-up queued error reports that have not yet been sent to Microsoft. Recommendation: Cleanup 58 | 59 | System Hibernation File=Hiberfil.sys is a file the system creates for the computer to enter hibernation mode. Hibernation copies everything stored in the computer’s memory and writes it to your hard drive in the form of the hiberfil.sys file. Recommendation: If you often put your system in Hibernation mode, you should not delete this file. You need it to resume your system. If you do not use Hibernation mode, and instead prefer to shut down your system at the end of the day, you can clean-up this file. 60 | 61 | Compress System Installation=This will compress your Windows 10 installation and apps files to reduce the overall footprint of Windows 10 making room to store more valuable files. NTFS compression works similarly to other types of compression, like zipping a file. Recommendation: If you are really stuck with tight storage space, you can run the NTFS drive compression. On a normal PC with a decent storage, this will slow down the system and affect the user experience. The Compression can be reverted using the Undo function below. 62 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /cleanmgr+.png: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/94177c0a9d166cc8b6dfa07d1643a651fcaac780/cleanmgr+.png -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /cleanmgr+_app.png: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/94177c0a9d166cc8b6dfa07d1643a651fcaac780/cleanmgr+_app.png -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /cleanmgr+_reflective.png: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/94177c0a9d166cc8b6dfa07d1643a651fcaac780/cleanmgr+_reflective.png -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /locales/locale.md: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | # How to Install a localization package for GUI in Cleanmgr+? 2 | Unzip the language set and copy it directly into the Cleanmgr+ bin > packages directory. 3 | 4 | # How to Install a localization package for Data sets in Cleanmgr+? 5 | Unzip the data set and copy it directly into the Cleanmgr+ bin directory (replace the existing Windata.ini) 6 | 7 | # Available localization packages for GUI 8 | ### German/Deutsche GUI > [Download](https://github.com/mirinsoft/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/locales/locale_de.zip) 9 | 10 | # Available localization for Data sets 11 | ### German/Deutsche GUI > [Download](https://github.com/mirinsoft/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/locales/windata_de.zip) 12 | 13 | ### Francais > [Download](https://github.com/mirinsoft/CleanmgrPlus/blob/master/locales/windata_fr.zip) 14 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /locales/locale_de.zip: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/builtbybel/CleanmgrPlus/94177c0a9d166cc8b6dfa07d1643a651fcaac780/locales/locale_de.zip -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /locales/locale_german_ui.ini: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | ; Deutsche Sprachdatei für Cleanmgr+ 2 | 3 | [frmMain] 4 | ; Main controls 5 | lblCleaner=mehr 6 | lblClean=Bereinigen 7 | lblPreview=Vorschau 8 | lblSelect=Auswahl | Alles aus-/abwählen 9 | lblSettings=Einstellungen 10 | cHamburgerMenu= | Einstellungen und mehr 11 | ImgRefresh= | Aktualisieren 12 | 13 | ; Storage window 14 | lblStorage=Dieser PC 15 | lblFreeInfo=frei > 16 | lblUsedSpaceInfo=gewinn > 17 | lblNewDiskSize=neu > 18 | 19 | ; Settings window 20 | lblSettingsInfo=Einstellungen 21 | lblTheme=Wechsele Design 22 | chkRunCleanmgr=Originale Datenträgerbereinigung | Klassische Datententrägerbereinigung einbeziehen 23 | chkRunCleanmgrCMD=Automatisieren 24 | chkRunCustomCleaner=Benutzerdefinierter Reiniger | Benutzerdefinierten Reiniger mit Kommandozeilenparameter ausführen (optional nach der Bereinigung) 25 | lblCustomCleanerBrowse=Pfad 26 | chkShowPrevDetailed=Detailvorschau | Erweiterte Protokollierung 27 | chkShowDesc=Beschreibungen-Fenster | Informationen zu den einzelnen Bereinigunsoptionen anzeigen 28 | chkAutoPreviewCleaner=Auto-Vorschau in Reiniger+ | Berechnet automatisch den Speicherplatz, der freigegeben werden kann sobald auf den Reiter "mehr" geklickt wird 29 | chkFinalTask=Task nach Bereinigung ausführen | Zusätzliche Aufgabe nach der Bereinigung ausführen (z.B. This is used to facilitate repairs and reinstallations of Microsoft Office features but it can eat up a lot of disk space. When you are on a crash diet you might have to live without it. It won't affect running any Office applications, but attempts to install new features will fail. 4 | Author=Mirinsoft 5 | AuthorURL=https://www.mirinsoft.com 6 | Warning=You may safely delete MSOCache folder with no regrets in case you have installation media you may use later in case it is required. 7 | 8 | [Files] 9 | File1=Detect|%SystemDrive%\MSOCache 10 | File2=Calc|%SystemDrive%\MSOCache 11 | Task1=Exec|RD /S /Q %SystemDrive%\MSOCache 12 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /scripts/Pale Moon Cache.csc: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | [Info] 2 | Title=Pale Moon Cache 3 | BrowserID=Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon 4 | Description=Clean-up Pale Moon Cache 5 | Author=Builtbybel 6 | AuthorURL=http://www.builtbybel.com 7 | 8 | [Files] 9 | Task=TaskKill|Palemoon.exe|WARNING 10 | File1=DeleteDir|$MozillaProfileCache$\cache2\entries 11 | File2=DeleteDir|$MozillaProfileCache$\jumpListCache 12 | File3=DeleteDir|$MozillaProfileCache$\thumbnails 13 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /scripts/Windows Shadow Copies.csc: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | [Info] 2 | Title=Windows Shadow Copies 3 | Description=Shadow Copy is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that can take manual or automatic backups of computer files and volumes, even when they are in use.
