I mentioned that I had to write [a trivial configuration class](https://github.com/kubernetes-native-java/spring-native-kubernetes/blob/main/src/main/java/io/kubernetes/nativex/KubernetesApiNativeConfiguration.java) to register the types that were used reflectively in the Spring Boot application, something that GraalVM frowns upon. 4 | 5 | Then, [Marc Nuri](https://twitter.com/MarcNuri) - who works on the Fabric8 project (the excellent Red Hat-driven client for Kubernetes) - took my trivial example, some of which I in turn took from the good [Dr. Dave Syer](https://twitter.com/david_syer), and turned into an example written in terms of Faric8. The Fabric8 project looks really good, and I wanted an excuse to get around to making that work at some point sooner rather than later, too! Now I had a great reason. Good news: it was even easier to get this working with Spring Boot and Spring Native. There's no Spring Boot autoconfiguration, _per se_, and there's no existing integration with Spring Nativem so I had to write that myself, but it was about as easy as the integration I wrote for the official Kubernetes Java client. This has to do mainly I think with the fact that there were fewer things in the project that I had to explicitly register. I could see patterns and then register everything that fit that pattern, and it _just worked_. (Three cheers for consistency!) It's so much more tedious to write GraalVM and Spring Native hints (configurations, basically) when you're sort of discovering the places that need those hints by surprise, one at a time. The cycle time is of course very slow for GraalVM compiles, so I was very happy to get something working so quickly: great job, Fabric8! 6 | 7 | Here's the code for that integration: 8 | 9 | ```java 10 | package io.kubernetesnativejava.fabric8.nativex; 11 | 12 | import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.annotation.JsonDeserialize; 13 | import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.annotation.JsonSerialize; 14 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.api.model.KubernetesResource; 15 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.api.model.NamedCluster; 16 | import lombok.SneakyThrows; 17 | import lombok.extern.slf4j.Slf4j; 18 | import org.reflections.Reflections; 19 | import org.springframework.aot.context.bootstrap.generator.infrastructure.nativex.NativeConfigurationRegistry; 20 | import org.springframework.nativex.AotOptions; 21 | import org.springframework.nativex.hint.NativeHint; 22 | import org.springframework.nativex.hint.TypeAccess; 23 | import org.springframework.nativex.type.NativeConfiguration; 24 | import org.springframework.util.ReflectionUtils; 25 | 26 | import java.lang.annotation.Annotation; 27 | import java.util.HashSet; 28 | import java.util.List; 29 | import java.util.Objects; 30 | import java.util.Set; 31 | import java.util.stream.Collectors; 32 | 33 | /** 34 | * Spring Native support for excellent Fabric8 Kubernetes client from Red Hat (thanks, Red Hat!) 35 | * 36 | * @author Josh Long 37 | */ 38 | @Slf4j 39 | @NativeHint(options = {"-H:+AddAllCharsets", "--enable-https", "--enable-url-protocols=https"}) 40 | public class Fabric8NativeConfiguration implements NativeConfiguration { 41 | 42 | private final Class clazz = NamedCluster.class; 43 | private final Reflections reflections = new Reflections(clazz.getPackageName(), clazz); 44 | 45 | @Override 46 | public void computeHints(NativeConfigurationRegistry registry, AotOptions aotOptions) { 47 | var subtypesOfKubernetesResource = reflections.getSubTypesOf(KubernetesResource.class); 48 | var othersToAddForReflection = List.of( 49 | io.fabric8.kubernetes.internal.KubernetesDeserializer.class 50 | ); 51 | var combined = new HashSet>(); 52 | combined.addAll(subtypesOfKubernetesResource); 53 | combined.addAll(othersToAddForReflection); 54 | combined.addAll(resolveSerializationClasses(JsonSerialize.class)); 55 | combined.addAll(resolveSerializationClasses(JsonDeserialize.class)); 56 | combined 57 | .stream() 58 | .filter(Objects::nonNull) 59 | .forEach(c -> { 60 | if (log.isDebugEnabled()) { 61 | log.debug("trying to register " + c.getName() + " for reflection"); 62 | } 63 | registry.reflection().forType(c).withAccess(TypeAccess.values()).build(); 64 | }); 65 | } 66 | 67 | @SneakyThrows 68 | private Set> resolveSerializationClasses(Class annotationClazz) { 69 | var method = annotationClazz.getMethod("using"); 70 | var classes = this.reflections.getTypesAnnotatedWith(annotationClazz); 71 | return classes.stream().map(clazzWithAnnotation -> { 72 | 73 | if (log.isDebugEnabled()) { 74 | log.debug("found " + clazzWithAnnotation.getName() + " : " + annotationClazz.getName()); 75 | } 76 | 77 | var annotation = clazzWithAnnotation.getAnnotation(annotationClazz); 78 | try { 79 | if (annotation != null) { 80 | return (Class) method.invoke(annotation); 81 | } 82 | } 83 | catch (Exception e) { 84 | ReflectionUtils.rethrowRuntimeException(e); 85 | } 86 | return null; 87 | }) 88 | .collect(Collectors.toSet()); 89 | } 90 | 91 | } 92 | ``` 93 | 94 | 95 | You'll need to add that your `META-INF/spring.factories` file, like this: 96 | 97 | ```properties 98 | org.springframework.nativex.type.NativeConfiguration=io.kubernetesnativejava.fabric8.nativex.Fabric8NativeConfiguration 99 | ``` 100 | 101 | Now you just need an example that uses the Fabric8 API. I was able to sort of figure it out by looking at the blog post. The result looks fairly similar to my original example, so that helped, too. Here's the example: 102 | 103 | 104 | ```java 105 | package com.example.fabric8native; 106 | 107 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.api.model.*; 108 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.client.DefaultKubernetesClient; 109 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.client.KubernetesClient; 110 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.client.informers.ResourceEventHandler; 111 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.client.informers.SharedIndexInformer; 112 | import io.fabric8.kubernetes.client.informers.SharedInformerFactory; 113 | import lombok.extern.slf4j.Slf4j; 114 | import org.springframework.boot.SpringApplication; 115 | import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.SpringBootApplication; 116 | import org.springframework.boot.context.event.ApplicationReadyEvent; 117 | import org.springframework.context.ApplicationListener; 118 | import org.springframework.context.annotation.Bean; 119 | import org.springframework.context.event.ContextStoppedEvent; 120 | 121 | import java.util.Objects; 122 | 123 | /** 124 | * This example uses 125 | * the Red Hat Fabric8 Kubernetes client. 126 | *
