This user is highly privileged and is what runs apps like Settings. This user can access many protected areas of your device. Below is stuff you can do if you get access to System (either by an exploit in Android (like [CVE 31317](https://github.com/oddbyte/CVE-2024-31317)), or by a exploit in a specific app that has runs as the System shared UID (like the [Samsung TTS exploit](https://www.google.com/search?q=samsung+tts+shell)). 3 | 4 | If you have access to System and run `id` you should get back something like this: 5 | ``` 6 | $ id 7 | uid=1000(system) gid=1000(system) groups=1000(system),1065(reserved_disk),3009(readproc) context=u:r:system_app:s0 8 | ``` 9 | 10 | ### Aliases to make your life easier: 11 | By default, everything is black/white only which can get pretty annoying quickly. Enable color and extra information in the `ls` command using: 12 | ``` 13 | alias ls="ls -la --color" 14 | ``` 15 | 16 | ## I got access to system, what can I do? 17 | First, you need to understand something: All of the following data is based on ASOP. Things **WILL** be different / not exist. Because this is all "hidden", it really isnt standard and has no reason to be. Therefore all vendors that pull from ASOP will most likely modify properties, not include specific paths, etc. 18 | 19 | ### Carrier features: 20 | On certian Samsung devices, you can access `/optics/configs/carriers/*`. This allows you to edit carrier features. Use [this decoder](https://github.com/fei-ke/OmcTextDecoder) to decode the .xml files, and read https://xdaforums.com/t/custom-csc-features-in-samsung-using-system-shell-guide-no-root.4631423/ for instructions on how to use this. Read the comments for features. For example, adding 21 | ``` 22 | TRUE 23 | TRUE 24 | ``` 25 | to the features will show you the device network speed in the notification area. 26 | Read more here: https://xdaforums.com/t/csc-features-10-jan13-enable-secret-csc-features.2033894/ 27 | 28 | ### Enable Multi-user on unsupported devices 29 | You can enable Multi-User support on any android device (even ones like Samsung which do not show this feature to users by default) using the following commands: 30 | ``` 31 | $ setprop persist.sys.max_users 15000 # Sets the max users to 15000 (extremely overkill) 32 | $ setprop persist.sys.show_multiuserui 1 # Tells Android to show the multiuserui (you can access this in the pull-down notification area, usually near the settings button) 33 | ``` 34 | 35 | ### Access to `/data/system/*`: 36 | This is a extremely powerful place in your system. It includes **A LOT** of system information and protected databases. 37 | 38 | ### Direct r/w to `system`, `secure`, and `global` settings. 39 | You can find the db files at `/data/system/users/0`, like `/data/system/users/0/settings_global.xml`. 40 | 41 | ### Force profile owner 42 | **This is untested** 43 | 44 | You can write to `/data/system/users/0`, which means that you can make a file called `/data/system/users/0/profile_owner.xml` with the following content: 45 | ``` 46 | 47 | ``` 48 | Which (from what I can tell) will make Device Admins profile owners (?????) (untested) 49 | 50 | ## What system cannot access 51 | System is prevented from r/w/x on `/data/local/tmp`. This means that any binaries you want to run (like the `exp.so` used to throw the shell) must be included as a "library" in a installed app. 52 | 53 | ## Below is technical information on what it can access: 54 | ## Properties: 55 | `bluetooth.*` 56 | 57 | `persist.bluetooth.*` 58 | 59 | `debug.*` 60 | 61 | `net.*` 62 | 63 | `sys.*` 64 | 65 | `persist.sys.*` 66 | 67 | `log.tag.*` 68 | 69 | `persist.log.tag` 70 | 71 | You can find what selinux context goes to what properties [here](https://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/sepolicy/+/main/private/property_contexts) and what `system_app` can access [here](https://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/sepolicy/+/main/private/system_app.te) 72 | 73 | `system_app` can access any system properties that are protected by the following selinux context: 74 | ``` 75 | Bluetooth properties 76 | 77 | adaptive_haptics_prop 78 | arm64_memtag_prop 79 | bluetooth_a2dp_offload_prop 80 | bluetooth_audio_hal_prop 81 | bluetooth_prop 82 | bluetooth_lea_mode_prop 83 | exported_bluetooth_prop 84 | 85 | System properties 86 | 87 | debug_prop 88 | system_prop 89 | exported_system_prop 90 | exported3_system_prop 91 | gesture_prop 92 | locale_prop 93 | log_tag_prop 94 | logd_prop 95 | net_radio_prop 96 | timezone_prop 97 | drm_forcel3_prop 98 | dynamic_system_prop 99 | 100 | USB properties 101 | 102 | usb_control_prop 103 | usb_prop 104 | 105 | Control properties 106 | 107 | ctl_default_prop 108 | ctl_bugreport_prop 109 | ``` 110 | 111 | ## Filesystem: 112 | 113 | ### Read/Write Access 114 | 115 | 1. `system_app_data_file` (full create/read/write permissions) 116 | 117 | `/data/data/[system apps]` (system_app_data_file) 118 | 119 | 2. `misc_user_data_file` (full create/read/write permissions) 120 | 121 | `/data/misc/user` (misc_user_data_file) 122 | 123 | 3. `anr_data_file` (create/read/write permissions) 124 | 125 | `/data/anr` (anr_data_file) 126 | 127 | 4. `connectivityblob_data_file` (read/write permissions) 128 | 129 | `/data/connectivity/blobs` (connectivityblob_data_file) 130 | 131 | 5. `cgroup` files (write permissions) 132 | 133 | `/sys/fs/cgroup/*` (cgroup files) 134 | 135 | 6. `cgroup_v2` files and directories (write permissions) 136 | 137 | `/sys/fs/cgroup/v2/*` (cgroup_v2 files) 138 | 139 | ### Read-Only Access 140 | 141 | 1. `apex_data_file` (search permission) 142 | 143 | `/apex/*` (apex_data_file - search only (no read)) 144 | 145 | 2. `staging_data_file` (read permissions) 146 | 147 | `/data/staging/*` (staging_data_file) 148 | 149 | 3. `wallpaper_file` (read permissions) 150 | 151 | `/data/system/users/*/wallpaper` (wallpaper_file) 152 | 153 | 4. `icon_file` (read permissions) 154 | 155 | `/data/system/users/*/icons` (icon_file) 156 | 157 | 5. `asec_apk_file` (read permissions) 158 | 159 | `/data/app-asec/*/pkg.apk` (asec_apk_file) 160 | 161 | 6. `vendor_boot_ota_file` (read directory permissions) 162 | 163 | `/vendor_boot_ota` (vendor_boot_ota_file) 164 | 165 | 7. `system_dlkm_file` (limited access - search, getattr, open, read) 166 | 167 | `/system_dlkm/etc/NOTICE.xml.gz` (system_dlkm_file) 168 | 169 | 8. `proc_version` (read permissions) 170 | 171 | `/proc/version` (proc_version) 172 | 173 | ### Special Access 174 | 175 | keystore and wifi_key keystores (various operations) 176 | 177 | Can connect to system_server UDP sockets 178 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /LICENSE: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | Apache License 2 | Version 2.0, January 2004 3 | http://www.apache.org/licenses/ 4 | 5 | TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE, REPRODUCTION, AND DISTRIBUTION 6 | 7 | 1.
