É bom também salientar que, embora a \ufpethesis tenha sido escrita com a UFPE em mente, a classe pode ser trivialmente usada por alunos de qualquer outra instituição, sendo necessário apenas preencher os campos de identificação adequadamente e fornecer a imagem com o logotipo da instituição (\secref{sec:ident}). 230 | 231 | Do ponto de vista estético, a \ufpethesis mudou na direção da simplicidade. Obviamente, o visual definido por Donald Knuth na segunda edição do livro \emph{The Art of Computer Programming}, na qual se baseava primeira versão da classe, continua sendo objeto da minha maior admiração. Entretanto, o novo estilo, este que você está vendo, que é baseado num padrão que eu tenho observado em alguns livros da Cambridge University Press é, na minha opinião, mais simples, mais limpo. A mudança mais importante a ser mencionada aqui, talvez seja a mudança na fonte. Enquanto a versão anterior usava essencialmente as fontes Computer Modern Roman do Prof. Knuth, a nova versão emprega a combinação Times-Helvetica-Courier. Essa mudança deveu-se principalmente a dois fatores. O primeiro, de ordem mais prática, deve-se ao fato de que, nesses tempos de documentos sendo distribuídos em forma eletrônica (leia-se PDF) pela internet, as novas fontes PostScript T1 parecem mais apropriadas do que as fontes bitmapped. 232 | Obviamente, por si só isso não seria uma justificativa, já que a maioria das distribuições recentes do \TeX\ incluem versões PostScript das fontes CMR. 233 | O fato é que as fontes CMR posseum a desvantagem de serem mais largas e muito claras (o baixo contraste torna a leitura mais cansativa), além do fato de me parecem um tanto exuberantes demais. Aposto que você nunca viu, afinal, um livro moderno de uma editora tradicional, ou mesmo uma revista com espaçamento duplo. Se esta for uma regra imposta pela sua instituição (felizmente, não é o caso da UFPE), tente argumentar com a bibliotecária ou pessoa responsável. 981 | 982 | Uma vez feita a ressalva acima, a única hipótese na qual se admite alguma utilidade em se empregar espaçamento duplo é quando a versão do documento não é final, quando ainda vai ser submetido à revisão. Nesse caso, o espaço extra entre as linhas serve para o revisor escrever ali as suas correções e observações. Apenas neste caso, deve o usuário utilizar um pacote \LaTeX\ apropriado, como por exemplo o pacote \textsf{setspace}. A impressão em frente-e-verso reduz o volume do material impresso além de conferir-lhe um aspecto mais harmônico, simétrico e profissional. Qualquer exigência pela impressão em face única é, em princípio, injustificada, provavelmente, resquício dos tempos da máquina de escrever e do papel-carbono. Nesse caso, o usuário pode adotar uma de duas soluções. A primeira seria imprimir cada cópia em duas rodadas, imprimindo primeiro todas as páginas ímpares, e depois as páginas pares no verso das páginas ímpares. Este procedimento, embora um pouco mais trabalhoso, pode ser facilmente executado em uma impressora doméstica e produz o mesmo resultado de uma impressão duplex automática. A segunda solução seria utilizar a opção \verb#oneside# (vide \secref{sec_str}) para gerar o documento na versão própria para impressão em face simples.
