1 | # 1 Thessalonians
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul and Sylvanus and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians: in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ.
6 | [2] Grace be to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for you all: making a remembrance of you in our prayers without ceasing,
7 | [3] Being mindful of the work of your faith and labour and charity: and of the enduring of the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ before God and our Father.
8 | [4] Knowing, brethren, beloved of God, your election:
9 | [5] For our gospel hath not been unto you in word only, but in power also: and in the Holy Ghost and in much fulness, as you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes.
10 | [6] And you became followers of us and of the Lord: receiving the word in much tribulation, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
11 | [7] So that you were made a pattern to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.
12 | [8] For from you was spread abroad the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and in Achaia but also in every place: your faith which is towards God, is gone forth, so that we need not to speak any thing.
13 | [9] For they themselves relate of us, what manner of entering in we had unto you: and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.
14 | [10] And to wait for his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead), Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.
15 |
16 | ## Chapter 2
17 |
18 | [1] For yourselves know, brethren, our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:
19 | [2] But having suffered many things before and been shamefully treated, (as you know) at Philippi, we had confidence in our God, to speak unto you the gospel of God in much carefulness.
20 | [3] For our exhortation was not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deceit.
21 | [4] But as we were approved by God that the gospel should be committed to us: even so we speak, not as pleasing men but God, who proveth our hearts.
22 | [5] For neither have we used at any time the speech of flattery, as you know: nor taken an occasion of covetousness (God is witness):
23 | [6] Nor sought we glory of men, neither of you, nor of others.
24 | [7] Whereas we might have been burdensome to you, as the apostles of Christ: but we became little ones in the midst of you, as if a nurse should cherish her children:
25 | [8] So desirous of you, we would gladly impart unto you not only the gospel of God but also our own souls: because you were become most dear unto us.
26 | [9] For you remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you, we preached among you the gospel of God.
27 | [10] You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and without blame we have been to you that have believed:
28 | [11] As you know in what manner, entreating and comforting you (as a father doth his children),
29 | [12] We testified to every one of you that you would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
30 | [13] Therefore, we also give thanks to God without ceasing: because, that when you had received of us the word of the hearing of God, you received it not as the word of men, but (as it is indeed) the word of God, who worketh in you that have believed.
31 | [14] For you, brethren, are become followers of the churches of God which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus: for you also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they have from the Jews:
32 | [15] Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and please not God, and are adversaries to all men;
33 | [16] Prohibiting us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always: for the wrath of God is come upon them to the end.
34 | [17] But we, brethren, being taken away from you for a short time, in sight, not in heart, have hastened the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.
35 | [18] For we would have come unto you, I Paul indeed, once and again: but Satan hath hindered us.
36 | [19] For what is our hope or joy or crown of glory? Are not you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
37 | [20] For you are our glory and joy.
38 |
39 | ## Chapter 3
40 |
41 | [1] For which cause, forbearing no longer, we thought it good to remain at Athens alone.
42 | [2] And we sent Timothy, our brother and the minister of God in the gospel of Christ, to confirm you and exhort you concerning your faith:
43 | [3] That no man should be moved in these tribulations: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
44 | [4] For even when we were with you, we foretold you that we should suffer tribulations: as also it is come to pass, and you know.
45 | [5] For this cause also, I, forbearing no longer, sent to know your faith: lest perhaps he that tempteth should have tempted you: and our labour should be made vain.
46 | [6] But now when Timothy came to us from you and related to us your faith and charity, and that you have a good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us as we also to see you:
47 | [7] Therefore we were comforted, brethren, in you, in all our necessity and tribulation, by your faith.
48 | [8] Because now we live, if you stand in the Lord.
49 | [9] For what thanks can we return to God for you, in all the joy wherewith we rejoice for you before our God,
50 | [10] Night and day more abundantly praying that we may see your face and may accomplish those things that are wanting to your faith?
51 | [11] Now God himself and our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
52 | [12] And may the Lord multiply you and make you abound in charity towards one another and towards all men: as we do also towards you,
53 | [13] To confirm your hearts without blame, in holiness, before God and our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, with all his saints. Amen.
54 |
55 | ## Chapter 4
56 |
57 | [1] For the rest therefore, brethren, pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus that, as you have received from us, how you ought to walk and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more.
58 | [2] For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus.
59 | [3] For this is the will of God, your sanctification: That you should abstain from fornication:
60 | [4] That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour,
61 | [5] Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God:
62 | [6] And that no man overreach nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before and have testified.
63 | [7] For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification.
64 | [8] Therefore, he that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God, who also hath given his holy Spirit in us.
65 | [9] But as touching the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you: for yourselves have learned of God to love one another.
66 | [10] For indeed you do it towards all the brethren in all Macedonia. But we entreat you, brethren, that you abound more:
67 | [11] And that you use your endeavour to be quiet: and that you do your own business and work with your own hands, as we commanded you: and that you walk honestly towards them that are without: and that you want nothing of any man's.
68 | [12] And we will not have you ignorant brethren, concerning them that are asleep, that you be not sorrowful, even as others who have no hope.
69 | [13] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again: even so them who have slept through Jesus, will God bring with him.
70 | [14] For this we say unto you in the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them who have slept.
71 | [15] For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven with commandment and with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God: and the dead who are in Christ shall rise first.
72 | [16] Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet Christ, into the air: and so shall we be always with the Lord.
73 | [17] Wherefore, comfort ye one another with these words.
74 |
75 | ## Chapter 5
76 |
77 | [1] But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you:
78 | [2] For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night.
79 | [3] For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.
80 | [4] But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief.
81 | [5] For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness.
82 | [6] Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober.
83 | [7] For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.
84 | [8] But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breast plate of faith and charity and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
85 | [9] For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
86 | [10] Who died for us: that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him.
87 | [11] For which cause comfort one another and edify one another, as you also do.
88 | [12] And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you;
89 | [13] That you esteem them more abundantly in charity, for their work's sake. Have peace with them.
90 | [14] And we beseech you, brethren, rebuke the unquiet: comfort the feeble minded: support the weak: be patient towards all men.
91 | [15] See that none render evil for evil to any man: but ever follow that which is good towards each other and towards all men.
92 | [16] Always rejoice.
93 | [17] Pray without ceasing.
94 | [18] In all things give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you all.
95 | [19] Extinguish not the spirit.
96 | [20] Despise not prophecies.
97 | [21] But prove all things: hold fast that which is good.
98 | [22] From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.
99 | [23] And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things: that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
100 | [24] He is faithful who hath called you, who also will do it.
101 | [25] Brethren, pray for us.
102 | [26] Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
103 | [27] I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.
104 | [28] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The Ancient to the lady Elect and her children, whom I love in the truth: and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth,
6 | [2] For the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us and shall be with us for ever.
7 | [3] Grace be with you, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus the Son of the Father: in truth and charity.
8 | [4] I was exceeding glad that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
9 | [5] And now I beseech thee, lady, not as writing a new commandment to thee, but that which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.
10 | [6] And this is charity: That we walk according to his commandments. For this is the commandment that, as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in the same:
11 | [7] For many seducers are gone out into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a seducer and an antichrist.
12 | [8] Look to yourselves, that you lose not the things which you have wrought: but that you may receive a full reward.
13 | [9] Whosoever revolteth and continueth not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that continueth in the doctrine, the same hath both the Father and the Son.
14 | [10] If any man come to you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into the house nor say to him: God speed you.
15 | [11] For he that saith unto him: God speed you, communicateth with his wicked works.
16 | [12] Having more things to write unto you, I would not by paper and ink: for I hope that I shall be with you and speak face to face, that your joy may be full.
17 | [13] The children of thy sister Elect salute thee.

1 | # 2 Peter
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ: to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
6 | [2] Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord.
7 | [3] As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness are given us through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue.
8 | [4] By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world.
9 | [5] And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue: And in virtue, knowledge:
10 | [6] And in knowledge, abstinence: and in abstinence, patience: and in patience, godliness:
11 | [7] And in godliness, love of brotherhood: and in love of brotherhood, charity.
12 | [8] For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
13 | [9] For he that hath not these things with him is blind and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
14 | [10] Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time.
15 | [11] For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the ever-lasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
16 | [12] For which cause, I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them and are confirmed in the present truth.
17 | [13] But I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.
18 | [14] Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me.
19 | [15] And I will endeavour that you frequently have after my decease whereby you may keep a memory of these things.
20 | [16] For we have not by following artificial fables made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ: but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness.
21 | [17] For he received from God the Father honour and glory, this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him.
22 | [18] And this voice, we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
23 | [19] And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts.
24 | [20] Understanding this first: That no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.
25 | [21] For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
26 |
27 | ## Chapter 2
28 |
29 | [1] But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers who shall bring in sects of perdition and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
30 | [2] And many shall follow their riotousness, through whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
31 | [3] And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you. Whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not: and their perdition slumbereth not.
32 | [4] For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but delivered them, drawn down by infernal ropes to the lower hell, unto torments, to be reserved unto judgment:
33 | [5] And spared not the original world, but preserved Noe, the eighth person, the preacher of justice, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.
34 | [6] And reducing the cities of the Sodomites and of the Gomorrhites into ashes, condemned them to be overthrown, making them an example to those that should after act wickedly,
35 | [7] And delivered just Lot, oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked:
36 | [8] For in sight and hearing he was just, dwelling among them who from day to day vexed the just soul with unjust works.
37 | [9] The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented:
38 | [10] And especially them who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise government: audacious, self willed, they fear not to bring in sects, blaspheming.
39 | [11] Whereas angels, who are greater in strength and power, bring not against themselves a railing judgment.
40 | [12] But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption:
41 | [13] Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you:
42 | [14] Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls: having their heart exercised with covetousness: children of malediction.
43 | [15] Leaving the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor who loved the wages of iniquity,
44 | [16] But had a check of his madness, the dumb beast used to the yoke, which, speaking with man's voice, forbade the folly of the prophet.
45 | [17] These are fountains without water and clouds tossed with whirlwinds, to whom the mist of darkness is reserved.
46 | [18] For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:
47 | [19] Promising them liberty, whereas they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom a man is overcome, of the same also he is the slave.
48 | [20] For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.
49 | [21] For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice than, after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them.
50 | [22] For, that of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog is returned to his vomit; and: The sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
51 |
52 | ## Chapter 3
53 |
54 | [1] Behold this second epistle I write to you, my dearly beloved, in which, I stir up by way of admonition your sincere mind:
55 | [2] That you may be mindful of those words which I told you before from the holy prophet and of your apostles, of the precepts of the Lord and Saviour.
56 | [3] Knowing this first: That in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
57 | [4] Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? For since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
58 | [5] For this they are wilfully ignorant of: That the heavens were before, and the earth out of water and through water, consisting by the word of God:
59 | [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.
60 | [7] But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of the ungodly men.
61 | [8] But of this one thing be not ignorant, my beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
62 | [9] The Lord delayeth not his promise, as some imagine, but dealeth patiently for your sake, not willing that any should perish, but that all should return to penance,
63 | [10] But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief, in which the heavens shall pass away with great violence and the elements shall be melted with heat and the earth and the works which are in it shall be burnt up.
64 | [11] Seeing then that all these things are to be dissolved, what manner of people ought you to be in holy conversation and godliness?
65 | [12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of the Lord, by which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with the burning heat?
66 | [13] But we look for new heavens and a new earth according to his promises, in which justice dwelleth.
67 | [14] Wherefore, dearly beloved, waiting for these things, be diligent that you may be found before him unspotted and blameless in peace.
68 | [15] And account the longsuffering of our Lord, salvation: as also our most dear brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, hath written to you:
69 | [16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are certain things hard to be understood, which the unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.
70 | [17] You therefore, brethren, knowing these things before, take heed, lest being led aside by the error of the unwise, you fall from your own steadfastness.
71 | [18] But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and unto the day of eternity, Amen.

1 | # 2 Thessalonians
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul and Sylvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians. In God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
6 | [2] Grace unto you: and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
7 | [3] We are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith groweth exceedingly and the charity of every one of you towards each other aboundeth.
8 | [4] So that we ourselves also glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith, and in all your persecutions and tribulations: which you endure
9 | [5] For an example of the just judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which also you suffer.
10 | [6] Seeing it is a just thing with God to repay tribulation to them that trouble you:
11 | [7] And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power:
12 | [8] In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
13 | [9] Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his power:
14 | [10] When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be made wonderful in all them who have believed; because our testimony was believed upon you in that day.
15 | [11] Wherefore also we pray always for you: That our God would make you worthy of his vocation and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness and the work of faith in power:
16 | [12] That the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
17 |
18 | ## Chapter 2
19 |
20 | [1] And we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and of our gathering together unto him:
21 | [2] That you be not easily moved from your sense nor be terrified, neither by spirit nor by word nor by epistle. as sent from us, as if the day of the Lord were at hand.
22 | [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition
23 | [4] Who opposeth and is lifted up above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.
24 | [5] Remember you not that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
25 | [6] And now you know what withholdeth, that he may be revealed in his time.
26 | [7] For the mystery of iniquity already worketh: only that he who now holdeth do hold, until he be taken out of the way.
27 | [8] And then that wicked one shall be revealed: whom the Lord Jesus shall kill with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: him
28 | [9] Whose coming is according to the working of Satan, in all power and signs and lying wonders:
29 | [10] And in all seduction of iniquity to them that perish: because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying:
30 | [11] That all may be judged who have not believed the truth but have consented to iniquity.
31 | [12] But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of God, for that God hath chosen you firstfruits unto salvation, in sanctification of the spirit and faith of the truth:
32 | [13] Whereunto also he hath called you by our gospel, unto the purchasing of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
33 | [14] Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions, which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle.
34 | [15] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God and our Father, who hath loved us and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope in grace,
35 | [16] Exhort your hearts and confirm you in every good work and word.
36 |
37 | ## Chapter 3
38 |
39 | [1] For the rest, brethren, pray for us that the word of God may run and may be glorified, even as among you:
40 | [2] And that we may be delivered from importunate and evil men: for all men have not faith.
41 | [3] But God is faithful, who will strengthen and keep you from evil.
42 | [4] And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord that the things which we command, you both do and will do.
43 | [5] And the Lord direct your hearts, in the charity of God and the patience of Christ.
44 | [6] And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly and not according to the tradition which they have received of us.
45 | [7] For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us. For we were not disorderly among you.
46 | [8] Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.
47 | [9] Not as if we had not power: but that we might give ourselves a pattern unto you, to imitate us.
48 | [10] For also, when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat.
49 | [11] For we have heard there are some among you who walk disorderly: working not at all, but curiously meddling.
50 | [12] Now we charge them that are such and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ that, working with silence, they would eat their own bread.
51 | [13] But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
52 | [14] And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.
53 | [15] Yet do not esteem him as an enemy but admonish him as a brother.
54 | [16] Now the Lord of peace himself give you everlasting peace in every place. The Lord be with you all.
55 | [17] The salutation of Paul with my own hand: which is the sign in every epistle. So I write.
56 | [18] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

1 | # 2 Timothy
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus:
6 | [2] To Timothy, my dearly beloved son. Grace, mercy and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
7 | [3] I give thanks to God, whom I serve from my forefathers, with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have a remembrance of thee in my prayers, night and day.
8 | [4] Desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy:
9 | [5] Calling to mind that faith which is in thee unfeigned, which also dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and in thy mother Eunice, and I am certain that in thee also.
10 | [6] For which cause I admonish thee that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee by the imposition of my hands.
11 | [7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power and of love and of sobriety.
12 | [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but labour with the gospel, according to the power of God.
13 | [9] Who hath delivered us and called us by his holy calling, not according to our own works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the world:
14 | [10] But is now made manifest by the illumination of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath destroyed death and hath brought to light life and incorruption by the gospel.
15 | [11] Wherein I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles.
16 | [12] For which cause, I also suffer these things: but I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day.
17 | [13] Hold the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me: in faith and in the love which is in Christ Jesus.
18 | [14] Keep the good thing committed to thy trust by the Holy Ghost who dwelleth in us.
19 | [15] Thou knowest this, that all they who are in Asia are turned away from me: of whom are Phigellus and Hermogenes.
20 | [16] The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus: because he hath often refreshed me and hath not been ashamed of my chain:
21 | [17] But when he was come to Rome, he carefully sought me and found me.
22 | [18] The Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day. And in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou very well knowest.
23 |
24 | ## Chapter 2
25 |
26 | [1] Thou therefore, my son, be strong in Christ Jesus:
27 | [2] And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men who shall be fit to teach others also.
28 | [3] Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
29 | [4] No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses: that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself.
30 | [5] For he also that striveth for the mastery is not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
31 | [6] The husbandman that laboureth must first partake of the fruits.
32 | [7] Understand what I say: for the Lord will give thee in all things understanding.
33 | [8] Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ is risen again from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:
34 | [9] Wherein I labour even unto bands, as an evildoer. But the word of God is not bound.
35 | [10] Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.
36 | [11] A faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall live also with him.
37 | [12] If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.
38 | [13] If we believe not, he continueth faithful, he cannot deny himself.
39 | [14] Of these things put them in mind, charging them before the Lord. Contend not in words: for it is to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
40 | [15] Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
41 | [16] But shun profane and vain babblings: for they grow much towards ungodliness.
42 | [17] And their speech spreadeth like a canker: of whom are Hymeneus and Philetus:
43 | [18] Who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is past already, and have subverted the faith of some.
44 | [19] But the sure foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal: the Lord knoweth who are his; and let every one depart from iniquity who nameth the name of the Lord.
45 | [20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth: and some indeed unto honour, but some unto dishonour.
46 | [21] If any man therefore shall cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified and profitable to the Lord, prepared unto every good work.
47 | [22] But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity and peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
48 | [23] And avoid foolish and unlearned questions, knowing that they beget strifes.
49 | [24] But the servant of the Lord must not wrangle: but be mild toward all men, apt to teach, patient,
50 | [25] With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth;
51 | [26] And they may recover themselves from the snares of the devil by whom they are held captive at his will.
52 |
53 | ## Chapter 3
54 |
55 | [1] Know also this, that in the last days shall come dangerous times.
56 | [2] Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked,
57 | [3] Without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness,
58 | [4] Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasure more than of God:
59 | [5] Having an appearance indeed of godliness but denying the power thereof. Now these avoid.
60 | [6] For of these sort are they who creep into houses and lead captive silly women laden with sins, who are led away with divers desires:
61 | [7] Ever learning, and never attaining to the knowledge of the truth.
62 | [8] Now as Jannes and Mambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.
63 | [9] But they shall proceed no farther: for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.
64 | [10] But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,
65 | [11] Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.
66 | [12] And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
67 | [13] But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse: erring, and driving into error,
68 | [14] But continue thou in those things which thou hast learned and which have been committed to thee. Knowing of whom thou hast learned them:
69 | [15] And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures which can instruct thee to salvation by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
70 | [16] All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice:
71 | [17] That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.
72 |
73 | ## Chapter 4
74 |
75 | [1] I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom:
76 | [2] Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.
77 | [3] For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears:
78 | [4] And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.
79 | [5] But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry. Be sober.
80 | [6] For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand.
81 | [7] I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.
82 | [8] As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.
83 | [9] For Demas hath left me, loving this world, and is gone to Thessalonica:
84 | [10] Crescens into Galatia, Titus into Dalmatia.
85 | [11] Only Luke is with me. Take Mark and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
86 | [12] But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
87 | [13] The cloak that I left at Troas, with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee: and the books, especially the parchments.
88 | [14] Alexander the coppersmith hath done me much evil: the Lord will reward him according to his works:
89 | [15] Whom do thou also avoid: for he hath greatly withstood our words.
90 | [16] At my first answer, no man stood with me: but all forsook me. May it not be laid to their charge!
91 | [17] But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching may be accomplished and that all the Gentiles may hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
92 | [18] The Lord hath delivered me from every evil work and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom. To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
93 | [19] Salute Prisca, and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus.
94 | [20] Erastus remained at Corinth. And Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.
95 | [21] Make haste to come before winter. Eubulus and Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brethren, salute thee.
96 | [22] The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The Ancient, to the dearly beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
6 | [2] Dearly beloved, concerning all things I make it my prayer that thou mayest proceed prosperously and fare well, as thy soul doth prosperously.
7 | [3] I was exceedingly glad when the brethren came and gave testimony to the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
8 | [4] I have no greater grace than this, to hear that my children walk in truth.
9 | [5] Dearly beloved, thou dost faithfully whatever thou dost for the brethren: and that for strangers,
10 | [6] Who have given testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church. Whom thou shalt do well to bring forward on their way in a manner worthy of God:
11 | [7] Because, for his name they went out, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
12 | [8] We therefore ought to receive such: that we may be fellow helpers of the truth.
13 | [9] I had written perhaps to the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, doth not receive us.
14 | [10] For this cause, if I come, I will advertise his works which he doth; with malicious words prating against us. And as if these things were not enough for him, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that do receive them he forbiddeth, and casteth out of the church.
15 | [11] Dearly beloved, follow not that which is evil: but that which is good. He that doth good is of God: he that doth evil hath not seen God.
16 | [12] To Demetrius, testimony is given by all, and by the truth itself: yea and we also give testimony. And thou knowest that our testimony is true.
17 | [13] I had many things to write unto thee: but I would not by ink and pen write to thee.
18 | [14] But I hope speedily to see thee: and we will speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.

3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, and Timothy, a brother:
6 | [2] To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ Jesus who are at Colossa.
7 | [3] Grace be to you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you.
8 | [4] Hearing your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have towards all the saints.
9 | [5] For the hope that is laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard in the word of the truth of the gospel,
10 | [6] Which is come unto you, as also it is in the whole world and bringeth forth fruit and groweth, even as it doth in you, since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.
11 | [7] As you learned of Epaphras, our most beloved fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ Jesus;
12 | [8] Who also hath manifested your love in the spirit.
13 | [9] Therefore we also, from the day that we heard it, cease not to pray for you and to beg that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding:
14 | [10] That you may walk worthy of God, in all things pleasing; being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God:
15 | [11] Strengthened with all might according to the power of his glory, in all patience and longsuffering with joy,
16 | [12] Giving thanks to God the Father, who hath made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the saints in light:
17 | [13] Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love,
18 | [14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins:
19 | [15] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
20 | [16] For in him were all things created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by him and in him.
21 | [17] And he is before all: and by him all things consist.
22 | [18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may hold the primacy:
23 | [19] Because in him, it hath well pleased the Father that all fulness should dwell:
24 | [20] And through him to reconcile all things unto himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, both as to the things that are on earth and the things that are in heaven.
25 | [21] And you, whereas you were some time alienated and enemies in mind in evil works:
26 | [22] Yet now he hath reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unspotted and blameless before him:
27 | [23] If so ye continue in the faith, grounded and settled, and immoveable from the hope of the gospel which you have heard, which is preached in all the creation that is under heaven: whereof I Paul am made a minister.
28 | [24] Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ, in my flesh, for his body, which is the church:
29 | [25] Whereof I am made a minister according to the dispensation of God, which is given me towards you, that I may fulfil the word of God:
30 | [26] The mystery which hath been hidden from ages and generations, but now is manifested to his saints,
31 | [27] To whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ, in you the hope of glory.
32 | [28] Whom we preach, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
33 | [29] Wherein also I labour, striving according to his working which he worketh in me in power.
34 |
35 | ## Chapter 2
36 |
37 | [1] For I would have you know what manner of care I have for you and for them that are at Laodicea and whosoever have not seen my face in the flesh:
38 | [2] That their hearts may be comforted, being instructed in charity and unto all riches of fulness of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus:
39 | [3] In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
40 | [4] Now this I say, that no man may deceive you by loftiness of words.
41 | [5] For though I be absent in body, yet in spirit I am with you, rejoicing, and beholding your order and the steadfastness of your faith which is in Christ.
42 | [6] As therefore you have received Jesus Christ the Lord, walk ye in him:
43 | [7] Rooted and built up in him and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned: abounding in him in thanksgiving.
44 | [8] Beware lest any man cheat you by philosophy and vain deceit: according to the tradition of men according to the elements of the world and not according to Christ.
45 | [9] For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally.
46 | [10] And you are filled in him, who is the head of all principality and power.
47 | [11] In whom also you are circumcised with circumcision not made by hand in despoiling of the body of the flesh: but in the circumcision of Christ.
48 | [12] Buried with him in baptism: in whom also you are risen again by the faith of the operation of God who hath raised him up from the dead.
49 | [13] And you, when you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he hath quickened together with him, forgiving you all offences:
50 | [14] Blotting out the handwriting of the decree that was against us, which was contrary to us. And he hath taken the same out of the way, fastening it to the cross.
51 | [15] And despoiling the principalities and powers, he hath exposed them confidently in open shew, triumphing over them in himself.
52 | [16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink or in respect of a festival day or of the new moon or of the sabbaths,
53 | [17] Which are a shadow of things to come: but the body is of Christ.
54 | [18] Let no man seduce you, willing in humility and religion of angels, walking in the things which he hath not seen, in vain puffed up by the sense of his flesh:
55 | [19] And not holding the head, from which the whole body, by joints and bands, being supplied with nourishment and compacted, groweth into the increase of God.
56 | [20] If then you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet decree as though living in the world?
57 | [21] Touch not: taste not: handle not.
58 | [22] Which all are unto destruction by the very use, according to the precepts and doctrines of men.
59 | [23] Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in superstition and humility, and not sparing the body; not in any honour to the filling of the flesh.
60 |
61 | ## Chapter 3
62 |
63 | [1] Therefore if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.
64 | [2] Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth.
65 | [3] For you are dead: and your life is hid with Christ in God.
66 | [4] When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory.
67 | [5] Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil concupiscence and covetousness, which is the service of idols.
68 | [6] For which things the wrath of God cometh upon the children of unbelief.
69 | [7] In which you also walked some time, when you lived in them.
70 | [8] But now put you also all away: anger, indignation, malice, blasphemy, filthy speech out of your mouth.
71 | [9] Lie not one to another: stripping yourselves of the old man with his deeds,
72 | [10] And putting on the new, him who is renewed unto knowledge, according to the image of him that created him.
73 | [11] Where there is neither Gentile nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, bond nor free. But Christ is all and in all.
74 | [12] Put ye on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, the bowels of mercy, benignity, humility, modesty, patience:
75 | [13] Bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if any have a complaint against another. Even as the Lord hath forgiven you, so do you also.
76 | [14] But above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection.
77 | [15] And let the peace of Christ rejoice in your hearts, wherein also you are called in one body: and be ye thankful.
78 | [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you abundantly: in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual canticles, singing in grace in your hearts to God.
79 | [17] All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
80 | [18] Wives, be subject to your husbands, as it behoveth in the Lord.
81 | [19] Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter towards them.
82 | [20] Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
83 | [21] Fathers, provoke not your children to indignation, lest they be discouraged.
84 | [22] Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh: not serving to the eye, as pleasing men: but in simplicity of heart, fearing God.
85 | [23] Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men:
86 | [24] Knowing that you shall receive of the Lord the reward of inheritance. Serve ye the Lord Christ.
87 | [25] For he that doth wrong shall receive for that which he hath done wrongfully. And there is no respect of persons with God.
88 |
89 | ## Chapter 4
90 |
91 | [1] Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a master in heaven.
92 | [2] Be instant in prayer: watching in it with thanksgiving.
93 | [3] Praying withal for us also, that God may open unto us a door of speech to speak the mystery of Christ (for which also I am bound):
94 | [4] That I may make it manifest as I ought to speak.
95 | [5] Walk with wisdom towards them that are without, redeeming the time.
96 | [6] Let your speech be always in grace seasoned with salt: that you may know how you ought to answer every man.
97 | [7] All the things that concern me, Tychicus, our dearest brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord, will make known to you.
98 | [8] What I have sent to you for this same purpose, that he may know the things that concern you and comfort your hearts:
99 | [9] With Onesimus, a most beloved and faithful brother, who is one of you. All things that are done here, they shall make known to you.
100 | [10] Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, saluteth you: and Mark, the cousin german of Barnabas, touching whom you have received commandments. If he come unto you, receive him.
101 | [11] And Jesus that is called Justus: who are of the circumcision. These only are my helpers, in the kingdom of God: who have been a comfort to me.
102 | [12] Epaphras saluteth you, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, who is always solicitous for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and full in all the will of God.
103 | [13] For I bear him testimony that he hath much labour for you and for them that are at Laodicea and them at Hierapolis.
104 | [14] Luke, the most dear physician, saluteth you: and Demas.
105 | [15] Salute the brethren who are at Laodicea: and Nymphas and the church that is in his house.
106 | [16] And when this epistle shall have been read with you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans: and that you read that which is of the Laodiceans.
107 | [17] And say to Archippus: Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
108 | [18] The salutation of Paul with my own hand. Be mindful of my bands. Grace be with you. Amen.

1 | # Habakkuk
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
6 | [2] How long, O Lord, shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? shall I cry out to thee suffering violence, and thou wilt not save?
7 | [3] Why hast thou shewn me iniquity and grievance, to see rapine and injustice before me? and there is a judgment, but opposition is more powerful.
8 | [4] Therefore the law is torn in pieces, and judgment cometh not to the end: because the wicked prevaileth against the just, therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.
9 | [5] Behold ye among the nations, and see: wonder, and be astonished: for a work is done in your days, which no man will believe when it shall be told.
10 | [6] For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift nation, marching upon the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not their own.
11 | [7] They are dreadful, and terrible: from themselves shall their judgment, and their burden proceed.
12 | [8] Their horses are lighter than leopards, and swifter than evening wolves; and their horsemen shall be spread abroad: for their horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that maketh haste to eat.
13 | [9] They shall all come to the prey, their face is like a burning wind: and they shall gather together captives as the sand.
14 | [10] And their prince shall triumph over kings, and princes shall be his laughingstock: and he shall laugh at every strong hold, and shall cast up a mount, and shall take it.
15 | [11] Then shall his spirit be changed, and he shall pass, and fall: this is his strength of his god.
16 | [12] Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.
17 | [13] Thy eyes are too pure to behold evil, and thou canst not look on iniquity. Why lookest thou upon them that do unjust things, and holdest thy peace when the wicked devoureth the man that is more just than himself?
18 | [14] And thou wilt make men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things that have no ruler.
19 | [15] He lifted up all them with his hook, he drew them in his drag, and gathered them into his net: for this he will be glad and rejoice.
20 | [16] Therefore will he offer victims to his drag, and he will sacrifice to his net: because through them his portion is made fat, and his meat dainty.
21 | [17] For this cause therefore he spreadeth his net, and will not spare continually to slay the nations.
22 |
23 | ## Chapter 2
24 |
25 | [1] I will stand upon my watch, and fix my foot upon the tower: and I will watch, to see what will be said to me, and what I may answer to him that reproveth me.
26 | [2] And the Lord answered me, and said: Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables: that he that readeth it may run over it.
27 | [3] For as yet the vision is far off, and it shall appear at the end, and shall not lie: if it make any delay, wait for it: for it shall surely come, and it shall not be slack.
28 | [4] Behold, he that is unbelieving, his soul shall not be right in himself: but the just shall live in his faith.
29 | [5] And as wine deceiveth him that drinketh it: so shall the proud man be, and he shall not be honoured: who hath enlarged his desire like hell: and is himself like death, and he is never satisfied: but will gather together unto him all nations, and heap together unto him all people.
30 | [6] Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a dark speech concerning him: and it shall be said: Woe to him that heapeth together that which is not his own? how long also doth he load himself with thick clay?
31 | [7] Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee: and they be stirred up that shall tear thee, and thou shalt be a spoil to them?
32 | [8] Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all that shall be left of the people shall spoil thee: because of men's blood, and for the iniquity of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
33 | [9] Woe to him that gathereth together an evil covetousness to his house, that his nest may be on high, and thinketh he may be delivered out of the hand of evil.
34 | [10] Thou hast devised confusion to thy house, thou hast cut off many people, and thy soul hath sinned.
35 | [11] For the stone shall cry out of the wall: and the timber that is between the joints of the building, shall answer.
36 | [12] Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and prepareth a city by iniquity.
37 | [13] Are not these things from the Lord of hosts? for the people shall labour in a great fire: and the nations in vain, and they shall faint.
38 | [14] For the earth shall be filled, that men may know the glory of the Lord, as waters covering the sea.
39 | [15] Woe to him that giveth drink to his friend, and presenteth his gall, and maketh him drunk, that he may behold his nakedness.
40 | [16] Thou art filled with shame instead of glory: drink thou also, and fall fast asleep: the cup of the right hand of the Lord shall compass thee, and shameful vomiting shall be on thy glory.
41 | [17] For the iniquity of Libanus shall cover thee, and the ravaging of beasts shall terrify them because of the blood of men, and the iniquity of the land, and of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
42 | [18] What doth the graven thing avail, because the maker thereof hath graven it, a molten, and a false image? because the forger thereof hath trusted in a thing of his own forging, to make dumb idols.
43 | [19] Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.
44 | [20] But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
45 |
46 | ## Chapter 3
47 |
48 | [1] A PRAYER OF Habakkuk THE PROPHET FOR IGNORANCES.
49 | [2] O Lord, I have heard thy hearing, and was afraid. O Lord, thy work, in the midst of the years bring it to life: In the midst of the years thou shalt make it known: when thou art angry, thou wilt remember mercy.
50 | [3] God will come from the south, and the holy one from mount Pharan: His glory covered the heavens, and the earth is full of his praise.
51 | [4] His brightness shall be as the light: horns are in his hands: There is his strength hid:
52 | [5] Death shall go before his face. And the devil shall go forth before his feet.
53 | [6] He stood and measured the earth. He beheld, and melted the nations: and the ancient mountains were crushed to pieces. The hills of the world were bowed down by the journeys of his eternity.
54 | [7] I saw the tents of Ethiopia for their iniquity, the curtains of the land of Madian shall be troubled.
55 | [8] Wast thou angry, O Lord, with the rivers? or was thy wrath upon the rivers? or thy indignation in the sea? Who will ride upon thy horses: and thy chariots are salvation.
56 | [9] Thou wilt surely take up thy bow: according to the oaths which thou hast spoken to the tribes. Thou wilt divide the rivers of the earth.
57 | [10] The mountains saw thee, and were grieved: the great body of waters passed away. The deep put forth its voice: the deep lifted up its hands.
58 | [11] The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation, in the light of thy arrows, they shall go in the brightness of thy glittering spear.
59 | [12] In thy anger thou wilt tread the earth under foot: in thy wrath thou wilt astonish the nations.
60 | [13] Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people: for salvation with thy Christ. Thou struckest the head of the house of the wicked: thou hast laid bare his foundation even to the neck.
61 | [14] Thou hast cursed his sceptres, the head of his warriors, them that came out as a whirlwind to scatter me. Their joy was like that of him that devoureth the poor man in secret.
62 | [15] Thou madest a way in the sea for thy horses, in the mud of many waters.
63 | [16] I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded.
64 | [17] For the fig tree shall not blossom: and there shall be no spring in the vines. The labour of the olive tree shall fail: and the fields shall yield no food: the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls.
65 | [18] But I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus.
66 | [19] The Lord God is my strength: and he will make my feet like the feet of harts: and he the conqueror will lead me upon my high places singing psalms.

1 | # Haggai
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, saying:
6 | [2] Thus saith the Lord of hosts, saying: This people saith: The time is not yet come for building the house of the Lord.
7 | [3] And the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
8 | [4] Is it time for you to dwell in ceiled houses, and this house lie desolate?
9 | [5] And now thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts to consider your ways.
10 | [6] You have sowed much, and brought in little: you have eaten, but have not had enough: you have drunk, but have not been filled with drink: you have clothed yourselves, but have not been warmed: and he that hath earned wages, put them into a bag with holes.
11 | [7] Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts upon your ways:
12 | [8] Go up to the mountain, bring timber, and build the house: and it shall be acceptable to me, and I shall be glorified, saith the Lord.
13 | [9] You have looked for more, and behold it became less, and you brought it home, and I blowed it away: why, saith the Lord of hosts? because my house is desolate, and you make haste every man to his own house.
14 | [10] Therefore the heavens over you were stayed from giving dew, and the earth was hindered from yielding her fruits:
15 | [11] And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon all that the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon beasts, and upon all the labour of the hands.
16 | [12] Then Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and all the remnant of the people hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, and to the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God sent him to them: and the people feared before the Lord.
17 | [13] And Haggai the messenger of the Lord, as one of the messengers of the Lord, spoke, saying to the people: I am with you, saith the Lord.
18 | [14] And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zorobabel the son of Salathiel governor of Juda, and the spirit of Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people: and they went in, and did the work in the house of the Lord of Hosts their God.
19 |
20 | ## Chapter 2
21 |
22 | [1] In the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king, they began.
23 | [2] And in the seventh month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
24 | [3] Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel the governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and to the rest of the people, saying:
25 | [4] Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes?
26 | [5] Yet now take courage, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord, and take courage, Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and take courage, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord of hosts: and perform (for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts)
27 | [6] The word that I covenanted with you when you came out of the land of Egypt: and my spirit shall be in the midst of you: fear not.
28 | [7] For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet one little while, and I will move the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land.
29 | [8] And I will move all nations: AND THE DESIRED OF ALL NATIONS SHALL COME: and I will fill this house with glory: saith the Lord of hosts.
30 | [9] The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
31 | [10] Great shall be the glory of this last house more than of the first, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.
32 | [11] In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius the king, the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet, saying:
33 | [12] Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests the law, saying:
34 | [13] If a man carry sanctified flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touch with his skirt, bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat: shall it be sanctified? And the priests answered, and said: No.
35 | [14] And Haggai said: If one that is unclean by occasion of a soul touch any of all these things, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered, and said: It shall be defiled.
36 | [15] And Haggai answered, and said: So is this people, and so is this nation before my face, saith the Lord, and so is all the work of their hands: and all that they have offered there, shall be defiled.
37 | [16] And now consider in your hearts, from this day and upward, before there was a stone laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord.
38 | [17] When you went to a heap of twenty bushels, and they became ten: and you went into the press, to press out fifty vessels, and they became twenty.
39 | [18] I struck you with a blasting wind, and all the works of your hand with the mildew and with hail, yet there was none among you that returned to me, saith the Lord.
40 | [19] Set your hearts from this day, and henceforward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month: from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord were laid, and lay it up in your hearts.
41 | [20] Is the seed as yet sprung up? or hath the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree as yet flourished? from this day I will bless you.
42 | [21] And the word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying:
43 | [22] Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.
44 | [23] And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles: and I will overthrow the chariot, and him that rideth therein: and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
45 | [24] In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, I will take thee, O Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet, for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.

1 | # Joel
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The word of the Lord, that came to Joel, the son of Phatuel.
6 | [2] Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land: did this ever happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
7 | [3] Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
8 | [4] That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.
9 | [5] Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
10 | [6] For a nation come up upon my land, strong, and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp.
11 | [7] He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
12 | [8] Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
13 | [9] Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned:
14 | [10] The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.
15 | [11] The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.
16 | [12] The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men.
17 | [13] Gird yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God.
18 | [14] Sanctify ye a fast, call an assembly, gather together the ancients, all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to the Lord:
19 | [15] Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty.
20 | [16] Is not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
21 | [17] The beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses are broken down: because the corn is confounded.
22 | [18] Why did the beasts groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished.
23 | [19] To thee, O Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness: and the flame hath burnt all the trees of the country.
24 | [20] Yea, and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness.
25 |
26 | ## Chapter 2
27 |
28 | [1] Blow ye the trumpet in Sion, sound an alarm in my holy mountain, let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: because the day of the Lord cometh, because it is nigh at hand.
29 | [2] A day of darkness, and of gloominess, a day of clouds and whirlwinds: a numerous and strong people as the morning spread upon the mountains: the like to it hath not been from the beginning, nor shall be after it, even to the years of generation and generation.
30 | [3] Before the face thereof a devouring fire, and behind it a burning flame: the land is like a garden of pleasure before it, and behind it a desolate wilderness, neither is there any one that can escape it.
31 | [4] The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses, and they shall run like horsemen.
32 | [5] They shall leap like the noise of chariots upon the tops of mountains, like the noise of a flame of fire devouring the stubble, as a strong people prepared to battle.
33 | [6] At their presence the people shall be in grievous pains: all faces shall be made like a kettle.
34 | [7] They shall run like valiant men: like men of war they shall scale the wall: the men shall march every one on his way, and they shall not turn aside from their ranks.
35 | [8] No one shall press upon his brother: they shall walk every one in his path: yea, and they shall fall through the windows, and shall take no harm.
36 | [9] They shall enter into the city: they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up the houses, they shall come in at the windows, as a thief.
37 | [10] At their presence the earth hath trembled, the heavens are moved: the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars have withdrawn their shining.
38 | [11] And the Lord hath uttered his voice before the face of his army: for his armies are exceedingly great, for they are strong, and execute his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible: and who can stand it?
39 | [12] Now, therefore, saith the Lord. Be converted to me with all your heart, in fasting, and in weeping, and mourning.
40 | [13] And rend your hearts, and not your garments and turn to the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, patient and rich in mercy, and ready to repent of the evil.
41 | [14] Who knoweth but he will return, and forgive, and leave a blessing behind him, sacrifice and libation to the Lord your God?
42 | [15] Blow the trumpet in Sion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly,
43 | [16] Gather together the people, sanctify the church, assemble the ancients, gather together the little ones, and them that suck at the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth from his bed, and the bride out of her bridal chamber.
44 | [17] Between the porch and the altar the priests, the Lord's ministers, shall weep, and shall say: Spare, O Lord, spare thy people: and give not thy inheritance to reproach, that the heathens should rule over them. Why should they say among the nations: Where is their God?
45 | [18] The Lord hath been zealous for his land, and hath spared his people.
46 | [19] And the Lord answered, and said to his people: Behold I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and you shall be filled with them: and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
47 | [20] And I will remove far off from you the northern enemy: and I will drive him into a land unpassable, and desert, with his face towards the east sea, and his hinder part towards the utmost sea: and his stench shall ascend, and his rottenness shall go up, because he hath done proudly.
48 | [21] Fear not, O land, be glad, and rejoice: for the Lord hath done great things.
49 | [22] Fear not, ye beasts of the fields: for the beautiful places of the wilderness are sprung, for the tree hath brought forth its fruit, the fig tree, and the vine have yielded their strength.
50 | [23] And you, O children of Sion, rejoice, and be joyful in the Lord your God: because he hath given you a teacher of justice, and he will make the early and the latter rain to come down to you as in the beginning.
51 | [24] And the floors shall be filled with wheat, and the presses shall overflow with wine, and oil.
52 | [25] And I will restore to you the years which the locust, and the bruchus, and the mildew, and the palmerworm hath eaten; my great host which I sent upon you.
53 | [26] And you shall eat in plenty, and shall be filled and you shall praise the name of the Lord your God; who hath done wonders with you, and my people shall not be confounded for ever.
54 | [27] And you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: and I am the Lord your God, and there is none besides: and my people shall not be confounded forever.
55 | [28] And it shall come to pass after this, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
56 | [29] Moreover, upon my servants and handmaids in those days I will pour forth my spirit.
57 | [30] And I will shew wonders in heaven; and in earth, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke.
58 | [31] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood: before the great and dreadful day of the Lord doth come.
59 | [32] And it shall come to pass, that every one that shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved: for in Mount Sion, and in Jerusalem shall be salvation, as the Lord hath said, and in the residue whom the Lord shall call.
60 |
61 | ## Chapter 3
62 |
63 | [1] For behold in those days, and in that time when I shall bring back the captivity of Juda, and Jerusalem:
64 | [2] I will gather together all nations and will bring them down into the valley of Josaphat: and I will plead with them there for my people, and for my inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and have parted my land.
65 | [3] And they have cast lots upon my people: and the boy they have put in the stews, and the girl they have sold for wine, that they might drink.
66 | [4] But what have you to do with me, O Tyre, and Sidon, and all the coast of the Philistines? will you revenge yourselves on me? and if you revenge yourselves on me, I will very soon return you a recompense upon your own head.
67 | [5] For you have taken away my silver, and my gold: and my desirable, and most beautiful things you have carried into your temples.
68 | [6] And the children of Juda, and the children of Jerusalem, you have sold to the children of the Greeks, that you might remove them far off from their own country.
69 | [7] Behold, I will raise them up out of the place wherein you have sold them: and I will return your recompense upon your own heads.
70 | [8] And I will sell your sons, and your daughters, by the hands of the children of Juda, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far off, for the Lord hath spoken it.
71 | [9] Proclaim ye this among the nations: Prepare war, raise up the strong: let them come, let all the men of war come up.
72 | [10] Cut your ploughshares into swords, and your spades into spears. Let the weak say: I am strong.
73 | [11] Break forth, and come, all ye nations from round about, and gather yourselves together: there will the Lord cause all thy strong ones to fall down.
74 | [12] Let them arise, and let the nations come up into the valley of Josaphat: for there I will sit to judge all nations round about.
75 | [13] Put ye in the sickles, for the harvest is ripe: come and go down, for the press is full, the fats run over: for their wickedness is multiplied.
76 | [14] Nations, nations in the valley of destruction: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of destruction.
77 | [15] The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars have withdrawn their shining.
78 | [16] And the Lord shall roar out of Sion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem: and the heavens and the earth shall be moved, and the Lord shall be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
79 | [17] And you shall know that I am the Lord your God, dwelling in Sion, my holy mountain: and Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall pass through it no more.
80 | [18] And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down sweetness, and the hills shall flow with milk: and waters shall flow through all the rivers of Juda: and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord, and shall water the torrent of thorns.
81 | [19] Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom a wilderness destroyed: because they have done unjustly against the children of Juda, and have shed innocent blood in their land.
82 | [20] And Judea shall be inhabited for ever, and Jerusalem to generation and generation.
83 | [21] And I will cleanse their blood, which I had not cleansed: and the Lord will dwell in Sion.

1 | # Jonah
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Amathi, saying:
6 | [2] Arise and go to Ninive, the great city, and preach in it: For the wickedness thereof is come up before me.
7 | [3] And Jonah rose up to flee into Tharsis from the face of the Lord, and he went down to Joppe, and found a ship going to Tharsis: and he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them to Tharsis from the face of the Lord,
8 | [4] But the Lord sent a great wind to the sea: and a great tempest was raised in the sea, and the ship was in danger to be broken.
9 | [5] And the mariners were afraid, and the men cried to their god: and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship, into the sea, to lighten it of them: and Jonah went down into the inner part of the ship, and fell into a deep sleep.
10 | [6] And the ship master came to him and said to him: Why art thou fast asleep? rise up call upon thy God, if so be that God will think of us that we may not perish.
11 | [7] And they said every one to his fellow: Come and let us cast lots, that we may know why this evil is upon us. And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
12 | [8] And they said to him: Tell us for what cause this evil is upon us, what is thy business? of what country art thou? and whither goest thou? or of what people art thou?
13 | [9] And he said to them: I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, and the God of heaven, who made both the sea and the dry land.
14 | [10] And the men were greatly afraid, and they said to him: Why hast thou done this? (For the men knew that he fled from the face of the Lord: because he had told them.)
15 | [11] And they said to him: What shall we do with thee, that the sea may be calm to us? for the sea flowed and swelled.
16 | [12] And he said to them: take me up, and cast me into the sea, and the sea shall be calm to you: for I know for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
17 | [13] And the men rowed hard to return the land, but they were not able: because the sea tossed and swelled upon them.
18 | [14] And they cried to the Lord, and said: We beseech thee, O Lord let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, oh Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.
19 | [15] And they took Jonah, and cast him into the sea, and the sea ceased from raging.
20 | [16] And the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and sacrificed victims to the Lord, and made vows.
21 |
22 | ## Chapter 2
23 |
24 | [1] Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah: and Jonah was in the belly of a fish for three days and three nights.
25 | [2] And Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God, out of the belly of the fish.
26 | [3] And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice.
27 | [4] And thou hast cast me forth into the deep, in the heart of the sea, and a flood hast compassed me: all thy billows, and thy waves have passed over me.
28 | [5] And I said: I am cast away out of the sight of thy eyes: but yet I shall see the holy temple again.
29 | [6] The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head.
30 | [7] I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord, my God.
31 | [8] When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto the holy temple.
32 | [9] They that in vain observe vanities, forsake their own mercy.
33 | [10] But I with the voice of praise will sacrifice to thee: I will pay whatsoever I have vowed for my salvation to the Lord.
34 | [11] And the Lord spoke to the fish: and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
35 |
36 | ## Chapter 3
37 |
38 | [1] And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time saying:
39 | [2] Arise, and go to Ninive, the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid thee.
40 | [3] And Jonah arose, and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord: now Ninive was a great city of three days' journey.
41 | [4] And Jonah began to enter into the city one day's journey: and he cried and said: Yet forty days and Ninive shall be destroyed.
42 | [5] And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least.
43 | [6] And the word came to the king of Ninive: and he rose up out of his throne, and cast away his robe from him, and was clothed in sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
44 | [7] And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive, from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: Let neither men nor beasts, oxen, nor sheep taste anything: let them not feed, nor drink water.
45 | [8] And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their strength, and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands.
46 | [9] Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?
47 | [10] And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.
48 |
49 | ## Chapter 4
50 |
51 | [1] And Jonah was exceedingly troubled, and was angry:
52 | [2] And he prayed to the Lord, and said: I beseech thee, O Lord, is not this what I said, when I was yet in my own country? therefore I went before to flee into Tharsis: for I know that thou art a gracious and merciful God, patient, and of much compassion, and easy to forgive evil.
53 | [3] And now, O Lord, I beseech thee take my life from me: for it is better for me to die than to live.
54 | [4] And the Lord said: Dost thou think thou hast reason to be angry?
55 | [5] Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat toward the east side of the city: and he made himself a booth there, and he sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would befall the city.
56 | [6] And the Lord God prepared an ivy, and it came up over the head of Jonah, to be a shadow over his head, and to cover him (for he was fatigued): and Jonah was exceeding glad of the ivy.
57 | [7] But God prepared a worm, when the morning arose on the following day: and it struck the ivy and it withered.
58 | [8] And when the sun was risen, the Lord commanded a hot and burning wind: and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, and he broiled with the heat: and he desired for his soul that he might die, and said: It is better for me to die than to live.
59 | [9] And the Lord said to Jonah: Dost thou think thou hast reason to be angry, for the ivy? And he said: I am angry with reason even unto death.
60 | [10] And the Lord said: Thou art grieved for the ivy, for which thou hast not laboured, nor made it to grow, which in one night came up, and in one night perished.
61 | [11] And shall I not spare Ninive, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons, that know how to distinguish between their right hand and their left, and many beasts?

1 | # Jude
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James: to them that are beloved in God the Father and preserved in Jesus Christ and called.
6 | [2] Mercy unto you and peace: and charity be fulfilled.
7 | [3] Dearly beloved, taking all care to write unto you concerning your common salvation, I was under a necessity to write unto you: to beseech you to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.
8 | [4] For certain men are secretly entered in (who were written of long ago unto this judgment), ungodly men, turning the grace of our Lord God into riotousness and denying the only sovereign Ruler and our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 | [5] I will therefore admonish you, though ye once knew all things, that Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, did afterwards destroy them that believed not.
10 | [6] And the angels who kept not their principality but forsook their own habitation, he hath reserved under darkness in everlasting chains, unto the judgment of the great day.
11 | [7] As Sodom and Gomorrha and the neighbouring cities, in like manner, having given themselves to fornication and going after other flesh, were made an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
12 | [8] In like manner, these men also defile the flesh and despise dominion and blaspheme majesty.
13 | [9] When Michael the archangel, disputing with the devil, contended about the body of Moses, he durst not bring against him the judgment of railing speech, but said: The Lord command thee.
14 | [10] But these men blaspheme whatever things they know not: and what things soever they naturally know, like dumb beasts, in these they are corrupted.
15 | [11] Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain: and after the error of Balaam they have for reward poured out themselves and have perished in the contradiction of Core.
16 | [12] These are spots in their banquets, feasting together without fear, feeding themselves: clouds without water, which are carried about by winds: trees of the autumn, unfruitful, twice dead, plucked up by the roots:
17 | [13] Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own confusion: wandering stars, to whom the storm of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 | [14] Now of these Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying: Behold, the Lord cometh with thousands of his saints:
19 | [15] To execute judgment upon all and to reprove all the ungodly for all the works of their ungodliness, whereby they have done ungodly: and for all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against God.
20 | [16] These are murmurers, full of complaints, walking according to their own desires: and their mouth speaketh proud things, admiring persons, for gain's sake.
21 | [17] But you, my dearly beloved, be mindful of the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
22 | [18] Who told you that in the last time there should come mockers, walking according to their own desires in ungodlinesses.
23 | [19] These are they who separate themselves, sensual men, having not the Spirit.
24 | [20] But you, my beloved, building yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
25 | [21] Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto life everlasting.
26 | [22] And some indeed reprove, being judged:
27 | [23] But others save, pulling them out of the fire. And on others have mercy, in fear, hating also the spotted garment which is carnal.
28 | [24] Now to him who is able to preserve you without sin and to present you spotless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
29 | [25] To the only God our Saviour through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory and magnificence, empire and power, before all ages, and now, and for all ages of ages. Amen.

1 | # Malachi
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of Malachi.
6 | [2] I have loved you, saith the Lord: and you have said: Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau brother to Jacob, saith the Lord, and I have loved Jacob,
7 | [3] But have hated Esau? and I have made his mountains a wilderness, and given his inheritance to the dragons of the desert.
8 | [4] But if Edom shall say: We are destroyed, but we will return and build up what hath been destroyed: thus saith the Lord of hosts: They shall build up, and I will throw down: and they shall be called the borders of wickedness, and the people with whom the Lord is angry for ever.
9 | [5] And your eyes shall see: and you shall say: The Lord be magnified upon the border of Israel.
10 | [6] The son honoureth the father, and the servant his master: if then I be a father, where is my honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear: saith the Lord of hosts.
11 | [7] To you, O priests, that despise my name, and have said: Wherein have we despised thy name? You offer polluted bread upon my altar, and you say: Wherein have we polluted thee? In that you say: The table of the Lord is contemptible.
12 | [8] If you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if you offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? offer it to thy prince, if he will be pleased with it, or if he will regard thy face, saith the Lord of hosts.
13 | [9] And now beseech ye the face of God, that he may have mercy on you, (for by your hand hath this been done,) if by any means he will receive your faces, saith the Lord of hosts.
14 | [10] Who is there among you, that will shut the doors, and will kindle the fire on my altar gratis? I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will not receive a gift of your hand.
15 | [11] For from the rising of the sun even to the going down, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to my name a clean oblation: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord of hosts.
16 | [12] And you have profaned it in that you say: The table of the Lord is defiled: and that which is laid thereupon is contemptible with the fire that devoureth it.
17 | [13] And you have said: Behold of our labour, and you puffed it away, saith the Lord of hosts, and you brought in of rapine the lame, and the sick, and brought in an offering: shall I accept it at your hands, saith the Lord?
18 | [14] Cursed is the deceitful man that hath in his flock a male, and making a vow offereth in sacrifice that which is feeble to the Lord: for I am a great King, saith the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the Gentiles.
19 |
20 | ## Chapter 2
21 |
22 | [1] And now, O ye priests, this commandment is to you.
23 | [2] If you will not hear, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, saith the Lord of hosts: I will send poverty upon you, and will curse your blessings, yea I will curse them, because you have not laid it to heart.
24 | [3] Behold, I will cast the shoulder to you, and will scatter upon your face the dung of your solemnities, and it shall take you away with it.
25 | [4] And you shall know that I sent you this commandment, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
26 | [5] My covenant was with him of life and peace: and I gave him fear: and he feared me, and he was afraid before my name.
27 | [6] The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace, and in equity, and turned many away from iniquity.
28 | [7] For the lips of the priests shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth: because he is the angel of the Lord of hosts.
29 | [8] But you have departed out of the way, and have caused many to stumble at the law: you have made void the covenant of Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
30 | [9] Therefore have I also made you contemptible, and base before all people, as you have not kept my ways, and have accepted persons in the law.
31 | [10] Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why then doth every one of us despise his brother, violating the covenant of our fathers?
32 | [11] Juda hath transgressed, and abomination hath been committed in Israel, and in Jerusalem: for Juda hath profaned the holiness of the Lord, which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
33 | [12] The Lord will cut off the man that hath done this, both the master, and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering to the Lord of hosts.
34 | [13] And this again have you done, you have covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and bellowing, so that I have no more a regard to sacrifice, neither do I accept any atonement at your hands.
35 | [14] And you have said: For what cause? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee, and the wife of thy youth, whom thou hast despised: yet she was thy partner, and the wife of thy covenant.
36 | [15] Did not one make her, and she is the residue of his spirit? And what doth one seek, but the seed of God? Keep then your spirit, and despise not the wife of thy youth.
37 | [16] When thou shalt hate her put her away, saith the Lord, the God of Israel: but iniquity shalt cover his garment, saith the Lord of hosts, keep your spirit, and despise not.
38 | [17] You have wearied the Lord with your words, and you said: Wherein have we wearied him? In that you say: Every one that doth evil, is good in the sight of the Lord, and such please him: or surely where is the God of judgment?
39 |
40 | ## Chapter 3
41 |
42 | [1] Behold I send my angel, and he shall prepare the way before my face. And presently the Lord, whom you seek, and the angel of the testament, whom you desire, shall come to his temple. Behold, he cometh, saith the Lord of hosts.
43 | [2] And who shall be able to think of the day of his coming? and who shall stand to see him? for he is like a refining fire, and like the fuller's herb:
44 | [3] And he shall sit refining and cleansing the silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall refine them as gold, and as silver, and they shall offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice.
45 | [4] And the sacrifice of Juda and of Jerusalem shall please the Lord, as in the days of old, and in the ancient years.
46 | [5] And I will come to you in judgment, and will be a speedy witness against sorcerers, and adulterers, and false swearers, and them that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widows, and the fatherless: and oppress the stranger, and have not feared me, saith the Lord of hosts.
47 | [6] For I am the Lord, and I change not: and you the sons of Jacob are not consumed.
48 | [7] For from the days of your fathers you have departed from my ordinances, and have not kept them: Return to me, and I will return to you, saith the Lord of hosts. And you have said: Wherein shall we return?
49 | [8] Shall a man afflict God, for you afflict me. And you have said: Wherein do we afflict thee? in tithes and in firstfruits.
50 | [9] And you are cursed with want, and you afflict me, even the whole nation of you.
51 | [10] Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and try me in this, saith the Lord: if I open not unto you the flood-gates of heaven, and pour you out a blessing even to abundance.
52 | [11] And I will rebuke for your sakes the devourer, and he shall not spoil the fruit of your land: neither shall the vine in the field be barren, saith the Lord of hosts.
53 | [12] And all nations shall call you blessed: for you shall be a delightful land, saith the Lord of hosts.
54 | [13] Your words have been unsufferable to me, saith the Lord.
55 | [14] And you have said: What have we spoken against thee? You have said: He laboureth in vain that serveth God, and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinances, and that we have walked sorrowful before the Lord of hosts?
56 | [15] Wherefore now we call the proud people happy, for they that work wickedness are built up, and they have tempted God and are preserved.
57 | [16] Then they that feared the Lord, spoke every one with his neighbour: and the Lord gave ear, and heard it: and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that fear the Lord, and think on his name.
58 | [17] And they shall be my special possession, saith the Lord of hosts, in the day that I do judgment: and I will spare them, as a man spareth his son that serveth him.
59 | [18] And you shall return, and shall see the difference between the just and the wicked: and between him that serveth God, and him that serveth him not.
60 |
61 | ## Chapter 4
62 |
63 | [1] For behold the day shall come kindled as a furnace: and all the proud, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall set them on fire, saith the Lord of hosts, it shall not leave them root, nor branch.
64 | [2] But unto you that fear my name, the Sun of justice shall arise, and health in his wings: and you shall go forth, and shall leap like calves of the herd.
65 | [3] And you shall tread down the wicked when they shall be ashes under the sole of your feet in the day that I do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
66 | [4] Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the precepts, and judgments.
67 | [5] Behold, I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
68 | [6] And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers: lest I come, and strike the earth with anathema.

1 | # Nahum
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The burden of Ninive. The book of the vision of Nahum, the Elcesite.
6 | [2] The Lord is a jealous God, and a revenger: the Lord is a revenger, and hath wrath: the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he is angry with his enemies.
7 | [3] The Lord is patient, and great in power, and will not cleanse and acquit the guilty. The Lord's ways are in a tempest, and a whirlwind, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
8 | [4] He rebuketh the sea and drieth it up: and bringeth all the rivers to be a desert. Basan languisheth and Carmel: and the flower of Libanus fadeth away.
9 | [5] The mountains tremble at him, and the hills are made desolate: and the earth hath quaked at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.
10 | [6] Who can stand before the face of his indignation? and who shall resist in the fierceness of his anger? his indignation is poured out like fire: and the rocks are melted by him.
11 | [7] The Lord is good, and giveth strength in the day of trouble: and knoweth them that hope in him.
12 | [8] But with a flood that passeth by, he will make an utter end of the place thereof: and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
13 | [9] What do ye devise against the Lord? he will make an utter end: there shall not rise a double affliction.
14 | [10] For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.
15 | [11] Out of thee shall come forth one that imagineth evil against the Lord, contriving treachery in his mind.
16 | [12] Thus saith the Lord: Though they were perfect: and many of them so, yet thus shall they be cut off, and he shall pass: I have afflicted thee, and I will afflict thee no more.
17 | [13] And now I will break in pieces his rod with which he struck thy back, and I will burst thy bonds asunder.
18 | [14] And the Lord will give a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name shall be sown: I will destroy the graven and molten thing out of the house of thy God, I will make it thy grave, for thou art disgraced.
19 | [15] Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: O Juda, keep thy festivals, and pay thy vows: for Belial shall no more pass through thee again, he is utterly cut off.
20 |
21 | ## Chapter 2
22 |
23 | [1] He is come up that shall destroy before thy face, that shall keep the siege: watch the way, fortify thy loins, strengthen thy power exceedingly.
24 | [2] For the Lord hath rendered the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: because the spoilers have laid them waste, and have marred their vine branches.
25 | [3] The shield of his mighty men is like fire, the men of the army are clad in scarlet, the reins of the chariot are flaming in the day of his preparation, and the drivers are stupefied.
26 | [4] They are in confusion in the ways, the chariots jostle one against another in the streets: their looks are like torches, like lightning running to and fro.
27 | [5] He will muster up his valiant men, they shall stumble in their march: they shall quickly get upon the walls thereof: and a covering shall be prepared.
28 | [6] The gates of the rivers are opened, and the temple is thrown down to the ground.
29 | [7] And the soldier is led away captive: and her bondwomen were led away mourning as doves, murmuring in their hearts.
30 | [8] And as for Ninive, her waters are like a great pool: but the men flee away. They cry: Stand, stand, but there is none that will return back.
31 | [9] Take ye the spoil of the silver, take the spoil of the gold: for there is no end of the riches of all the precious furniture.
32 | [10] She is destroyed, and rent, and torn: the heart melteth, and the knees fail, and all the loins lose their strength: and the faces of them all are as the blackness of a kettle.
33 | [11] Where is now the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, to which the lion went, to enter in thither, the young lion, and there was none to make them afraid?
34 | [12] The lion caught enough for his whelps, and killed for his lionesses: and he filled his holes with prey, and his den with rapine.
35 | [13] Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will burn thy chariots even to smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey out of the land, and the voice of thy messengers shall be heard no more.
36 |
37 | ## Chapter 3
38 |
39 | [1] Woe to thee, O city of blood, all full of lies and violence: rapine shall not depart from thee.
40 | [2] The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the neighing horse; and of the running chariot, and of the horsemen coming up,
41 | [3] And of the shining sword, and of the glittering spear, and of a multitude slain, and of a grievous destruction: and there is no end of carcasses, and they shall fall down on their dead bodies.
42 | [4] Because of the multitude of the fornications of the harlot that was beautiful and agreeable, and that made use of witchcraft, that sold nations through her fornications, and families through her witchcrafts.
43 | [5] Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will discover thy shame to thy face, and will shew thy nakedness to the nations, and thy shame to kingdoms.
44 | [6] And I will cast abominations upon thee, and will disgrace thee, and will make an example of thee.
45 | [7] And it shall come to pass that every one that shall see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say: Ninive is laid waste: who shall bemoan thee? whence shall I seek a comforter for thee?
46 | [8] Art thou better than the populous Alexandria, that dwelleth among the rivers? waters are round about it: the sea is its riches: the waters are its walls.
47 | [9] Ethiopia and Egypt were the strength thereof, and there is no end: Africa and the Libyans were thy helpers.
48 | [10] Yet she also was removed and carried into captivity: her young children were dashed in pieces at the top of every street, and they cast lots upon her nobles, and all her great men were bound in fetters.
49 | [11] Therefore thou also shalt be made drunk, and shalt be despised: and thou shalt seek help from the enemies.
50 | [12] All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with their green figs: if they be shaken, they shall fall into the mouth of the eater.
51 | [13] Behold thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open to thy enemies, the fire shall devour thy bars.
52 | [14] Draw thee water for the siege, build up thy bulwarks: go into the clay, and tread, work it and make brick.
53 | [15] There shall the fire devour thee: thou shalt perish by the sword, it shall devour thee like the bruchus: assemble together like the bruchus, make thyself many like the locust.
54 | [16] Thou hast multiplied thy merchandises above the stars of heaven: the bruchus hath spread himself and flown away.
55 | [17] Thy guards are like the locusts: and thy little ones like the locusts of locusts which swarm on the hedges in the day of cold: the sun arose, and they flew away, and their place was not known where they were.
56 | [18] Thy shepherds have slumbered, O king of Assyria, thy princes shall be buried: thy people are hid in the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
57 | [19] Thy destruction is not hidden, thy wound is grievous: all that have heard the fame of thee, have clapped their hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

1 | # Obadiah
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord God to Edom: We have heard a rumour from the Lord, and he hath sent an ambassador to the nations: Arise, and let us rise up to battle against him.
6 | [2] Behold I have made thee small among the nations: thou art exceeding contemptible.
7 | [3] The pride of thy heart hath lifted thee up, who dwellest in the clefts of the rocks, and settest up thy throne on high: who sayest in thy heart: Who shall bring me down to the ground?
8 | [4] Though thou be exalted as an eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars: thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.
9 | [5] If thieves had gone in to thee, if robbers by night, how wouldst thou have held thy peace? would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers had come in to thee, would they not have left thee at the least a cluster?
10 | [6] How have they searched Esau, how have they sought out his hidden things?
11 | [7] They have sent thee out even to the border: all the men of thy confederacy have deceived thee: the men of thy peace have prevailed against thee: they that eat with thee shall lay snares under thee: there is no wisdom in him.
12 | [8] Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
13 | [9] And thy valiant men of the south shall be afraid, that man may be cut off from the mount of Esau.
14 | [10] For the slaughter, and for the iniquity against thy brother Jacob, confusion shall cover thee, and thou shalt perish for ever.
15 | [11] In the day when thou stoodest against him, when strangers carried away his army captive, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem: thou also wast as one of them.
16 | [12] But thou shalt not look on in the day of thy brother, in the day of his leaving his country: and thou shalt not rejoice over the children of Juda, in the day of their destruction: and thou shalt not magnify thy mouth in the day of distress.
17 | [13] Neither shalt thou enter into the gate of my people in the day of their ruin: neither shalt thou also look on in his evils in the day of his calamity: and thou shalt not be sent out against his army in the day of his desolation.
18 | [14] Neither shalt thou stand in the crossways to kill them that flee: and thou shalt not shut up them that remain of him in the day of tribulation.
19 | [15] For the day of the Lord is at hand upon all nations: as thou hast done, so shall it be done to thee: he will turn thy reward upon thy own head.
20 | [16] For as you have drunk upon my holy mountain, so all nations shall drink continually: and they shall drink, and sup up, and they shall be as though they were not.
21 | [17] And in mount Sion shall be salvation, and it shall be holy, and the house of Jacob shall possess those that possessed them.
22 | [18] And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble: and they shall be kindled in them, and shall devour them: and there shall be no remains of the house of Esau, for the Lord hath spoken it.
23 | [19] And they that are toward the south, shall inherit the mount of Esau, and they that are in the plains, the Philistines: and they shall possess the country of Ephraim, and the country of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Galaad.
24 | [20] And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel, all the places of the Chanaanites even to Sarepta: and the captivity of Jerusalem that is in Bosphorus, shall possess the cities of the south.
25 | [21] And saviours shall come up into mount Sion to judge the mount of Esau: and the kingdom shall be for the Lord.

1 | # Philippians
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ: to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.
6 | [2] Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
7 | [3] I give thanks to my God in every remembrance of you:
8 | [4] Always in all my prayers making supplication for you all with joy:
9 | [5] For your communication in the gospel of Christ, from the first day unto now.
10 | [6] Being confident of this very thing: that he who hath begun a good work in you will perfect it unto the day of Christ Jesus.
11 | [7] As it is meet for me to think this for you all, for that I have you in my heart; and that, in my bands and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of my joy.
12 | [8] For God is my witness how I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
13 | [9] And this I pray: That your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and in all understanding:
14 | [10] That you may approve the better things: that you may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ:
15 | [11] Filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
16 | [12] Now, brethren, I desire you should know that the things which have happened to me have fallen out rather to the furtherance of the gospel:
17 | [13] So that my bands are made manifest in Christ, in all the court and in all other places.
18 | [14] And many of the brethren in the Lord, growing confident by my bands, are much more bold to speak the word of God without fear.
19 | [15] Some indeed, even out of envy and contention: but some also for good will preach Christ.
20 | [16] Some out of charity, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
21 | [17] And some out of contention preach Christ not sincerely: supposing that they raise affliction to my bands.
22 | [18] But what then? So that by all means, whether by occasion or by truth, Christ be preached: in this also I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
23 | [19] For I know that this shall fall out to me unto salvation, through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
24 | [20] According to my expectation and hope; that in nothing I shall be confounded: but with all confidence, as always, so now also, shall Christ be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death.
25 | [21] For to me, to live is Christ: and to die is gain.
26 | [22] And if to live in the flesh: this is to me the fruit of labour. And what I shall choose I know not.
27 | [23] But I am straitened between two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, a thing by far the better.
28 | [24] But to abide still in the flesh is needful for you.
29 | [25] And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all, for your furtherance and joy of faith:
30 | [26] That your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus for me, by my coming to you again.
31 | [27] Only let your conversation be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you, or, being absent, may hear of you, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind labouring together for the faith of the gospel.
32 | [28] And in nothing be ye terrified by the adversaries: which to them is a cause of perdition, but to you of salvation, and this from God.
33 | [29] For unto you it is given for Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him:
34 | [30] Having the same conflict as that which you have seen in me and now have heard of me.
35 |
36 | ## Chapter 2
37 |
38 | [1] If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of charity, if any society of the spirit, if any bowels of commiseration:
39 | [2] Fulfil ye my joy, that you be of one mind, having the same charity, being of one accord, agreeing in sentiment.
40 | [3] Let nothing be done through contention: neither by vain glory. But in humility, let each esteem others better than themselves:
41 | [4] Each one not considering the things that are his own, but those that are other men's.
42 | [5] For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
43 | [6] Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
44 | [7] But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.
45 | [8] He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.
46 | [9] For which cause, God also hath exalted him and hath given him a name which is above all names:
47 | [10] That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth:
48 | [11] And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.
49 | [12] Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but much more now in my absence) with fear and trembling work out your salvation.
50 | [13] For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will.
51 | [14] And do ye all things without murmurings and hesitations:
52 | [15] That you may be blameless and sincere children of God, without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation: among whom you shine as lights in the world.
53 | [16] Holding forth the word of life to my glory in the day of Christ: because I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.
54 | [17] Yea, and if I be made a victim upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and congratulate with you all.
55 | [18] And for the selfsame thing, do you also rejoice and congratulate with me.
56 | [19] And I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy unto you shortly, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know the things concerning you.
57 | [20] For I have no man so of the same mind, who with sincere affection is solicitous for you.
58 | [21] For all seek the things that are their own not the things that are Jesus Christ's.
59 | [22] Now know ye the proof of him: that as a son with the father, so hath he served with me in the gospel.
60 | [23] Him therefore I hope to send unto you immediately: so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
61 | [24] And I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come to you shortly.
62 | [25] But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow labourer and fellow soldier, but your apostle: and he that hath ministered to my wants.
63 | [26] For indeed he longed after you all: and was sad, for that you had heard that he was sick.
64 | [27] For indeed he was sick, nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him. And not only on him, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
65 | [28] Therefore, I sent him the more speedily: that seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow.
66 | [29] Receive him therefore with all joy in the Lord: and treat with honour such as he is.
67 | [30] Because for the work of Christ he came to the point of death: delivering his life, that he might fulfil that which on your part was wanting towards my service.
68 |
69 | ## Chapter 3
70 |
71 | [1] As to the rest, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not wearisome, but to you is necessary.
72 | [2] Beware of dogs: beware of evil workers: beware of the concision.
73 | [3] For we are the circumcision, who in spirit serve God and glory in Christ Jesus, not having confidence in the flesh.
74 | [4] Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other thinketh he may have confidence in the flesh, I more:
75 | [5] Being circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews. According to the law, a Pharisee:
76 | [6] According to zeal, persecuting the church of God: According to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.
77 | [7] But the things that were gain to me, the same I have counted loss for Christ.
78 | [8] Furthermore, I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ.
79 | [9] And may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, which is of God: justice in faith.
80 | [10] That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings: being made conformable to his death,
81 | [11] If by any means I may attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.
82 | [12] Not as though I had already attained, or were already perfect: but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus.
83 | [13] Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: Forgetting the things that are behind and stretching forth myself to those that are before,
84 | [14] I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus.
85 | [15] Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you,
86 | [16] Nevertheless, whereunto we are come, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule.
87 | [17] Be ye followers of me, brethren: and observe them who walk so as you have our model.
88 | [18] For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping) that they are enemies of the cross of Christ:
89 | [19] Whose end is destruction: whose God is their belly: and whose glory is in their shame: who mind earthly things.
90 | [20] But our conversation is in heaven: from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ,
91 | [21] Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.
92 |
93 | ## Chapter 4
94 |
95 | [1] Therefore my dearly beloved brethren and most desired, my joy and my crown: so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
96 | [2] I beg of Evodia and I beseech Syntyche to be of one mind in the Lord.
97 | [3] And I entreat thee also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.
98 | [4] Rejoice in the Lord always: again, I say, rejoice.
99 | [5] Let your modesty be known to all men. The Lord is nigh.
100 | [6] Be nothing solicitous: but in every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God.
101 | [7] And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
102 | [8] For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline: think on these things.
103 | [9] The things which you have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, these do ye: and the God of peace shall be with you.
104 | [10] Now I rejoice in the Lord exceedingly that now at length your thought for me hath flourished again, as you did also think; but you were busied.
105 | [11] I speak not as it were for want. For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content therewith.
106 | [12] I know both how to be brought low, and I know how to abound (every where and in all things I am instructed): both to be full and to be hungry: both to abound and to suffer need.
107 | [13] I can do all things in him who strengtheneth me.
108 | [14] Nevertheless, you have done well in communicating to my tribulation.
109 | [15] And you also know, O Philippians, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only.
110 | [16] For unto Thessalonica also you sent once and again for my use.
111 | [17] Not that I seek the gift: but I seek the fruit that may abound to your account.
112 | [18] But I have all and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things you sent, an odour of sweetness, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
113 | [19] And may my God supply all your want, according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
114 | [20] Now to God and our Father be glory, world without end. Amen.
115 | [21] Salute ye every saint in Christ Jesus.
116 | [22] The brethren who are with me salute you. All the saints salute you: especially they that are of Caesar's household.
117 | [23] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

1 | # Philemon
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer,
6 | [2] And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house.
7 | [3] Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 | [4] I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers.
9 | [5] Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus and towards all the saints:
10 | [6] That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work that is in you in Christ Jesus.
11 | [7] For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.
12 | [8] Wherefore, though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus to command thee that which is to the purpose:
13 | [9] For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.
14 | [10] I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus,
15 | [11] Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee but now is profitable both to me and thee:
16 | [12] Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels.
17 | [13] Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel.
18 | [14] But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary.
19 | [15] For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee that thou mightest receive him again for ever:
20 | [16] Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me. But how much more to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord?
21 | [17] If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself.
22 | [18] And if he hath wronged thee in any thing or is in thy debt, put that to my account.
23 | [19] I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee that thou owest me thy own self also.
24 | [20] Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord! Refresh my bowels in the Lord.
25 | [21] Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
26 | [22] But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
27 | [23] There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus:
28 | [24] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow labourers.
29 | [25] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

1 | # Titus
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God and the acknowledging of the truth, which is according to godliness:
6 | [2] Unto the hope of life everlasting, which God, who lieth not, hath promised before the times of the world:
7 | [3] But hath in due times manifested his word in preaching, which is committed to me according to the commandment of God our Saviour:
8 | [4] To Titus, my beloved son according to the common faith, grace and peace, from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Saviour.
9 | [5] For this cause I left thee in Crete: that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:
10 | [6] If any be without crime, the husband of one wife. having faithful children, not accused of riot or unruly.
11 | [7] For a bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not subject to anger, nor given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre:
12 | [8] But given to hospitality, gentle, sober, just, holy, continent:
13 | [9] Embracing that faithful word which is according to doctrine, that he may be able to exhort in sound doctrine and to convince the gainsayers.
14 | [10] For there are also many disobedient, vain talkers and seducers: especially they who are of the circumcision.
15 | [11] Who must be reproved, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
16 | [12] One of them a prophet of their own, said: The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slothful bellies.
17 | [13] This testimony is true. Wherefore, rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith:
18 | [14] Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn themselves away from the truth.
19 | [15] All things are clean to the clean: but to them that are defiled and to unbelievers, nothing is clean: but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
20 | [16] They profess that they know God: but in their works they deny him: being abominable and incredulous and to every good work reprobate.
21 |
22 | ## Chapter 2
23 |
24 | [1] But speak thou the things that become sound doctrine:
25 | [2] That the aged men be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
26 | [3] The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well:
27 | [4] That they may teach the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their children.
28 | [5] To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands: that the word of God be not blasphemed.
29 | [6] Young men, in like manner, exhort that they be sober.
30 | [7] In all things shew thyself an example of good works, in doctrine, in integrity, in gravity,
31 | [8] The sound word that can not be blamed: that he who is on the contrary part may be afraid, having no evil to say of us.
32 | [9] Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters: in all things pleasing, not gainsaying:
33 | [10] Not defrauding, but in all things shewing good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
34 | [11] For the grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men:
35 | [12] Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly and justly and godly in this world,
36 | [13] Looking for the blessed hope and coming of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
37 | [14] Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and might cleanse to himself a people acceptable, a pursuer of good works.
38 | [15] These things speak and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
39 |
40 | ## Chapter 3
41 |
42 | [1] Admonish them to be subject to princes and powers, to obey at a word, to be ready to every good work.
43 | [2] To speak evil of no man, not to be litigious but gentle: shewing all mildness towards all men.
44 | [3] For we ourselves also were some time unwise, incredulous, erring, slaves to divers desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
45 | [4] But when the goodness and kindness of God our Saviour appeared:
46 | [5] Not by the works of justice which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration and renovation of the Holy Ghost.
47 | [6] Whom he hath poured forth upon us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour:
48 | [7] That, being justified by his grace, we may be heirs according to hope of life everlasting.
49 | [8] It is a faithful saying. And these things I will have thee affirm constantly, that they who believe in God may be careful to excel in good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
50 | [9] But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and strivings about the law. For they are unprofitable and vain.
51 | [10] A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid:
52 | [11] Knowing that he that is such an one is subverted and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment.
53 | [12] When I shall send to thee Artemas or Tychicus, make haste to come unto me to Nicopolis. For there I have determined to winter.
54 | [13] Send forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollo, with care that nothing be wanting to them.
55 | [14] And let our men also learn to excel in good works for necessary uses: that they be not unfruitful.
56 | [15] All that are with me salute thee. Salute them that love us in the faith. The grace of God be with you all. Amen.

1 | # Zephaniah
2 |
3 | ## Chapter 1
4 |
5 | [1] The word of the Lord that came to Zephaniah the son of Chusi, the son of Godolias, the son of Amarias, the son of Ezechias, in the days of Josias, the son of Amon king of Juda.
6 | [2] Gathering, I will gather together all things from off the face of the land, saith the Lord:
7 | [3] I will gather man, and beast, I will gather the birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea: and the ungodly shall meet with ruin: and I will destroy men from off the face of the land, saith the Lord.
8 | [4] And I will stretch out my hand upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and I will destroy out of this place the remnant of Baal, and the names of the wardens of the temples with the priests:
9 | [5] And them that worship the host of heaven upon the tops of houses, and them that adore, and swear by the Lord, and swear by Melchom.
10 | [6] And them that turn away from following after the Lord, and that have not sought the Lord, nor searched after him.
11 | [7] Be silent before the face of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is near, for the Lord hath prepared a victim, he hath sanctified his guests.
12 | [8] And it shall come to pass in the day of the victim of the Lord, that I will visit upon the princes, and upon the king's sons, and upon all such as are clothed with strange apparel:
13 | [9] And I will visit in that day upon every one that entereth arrogantly over the threshold: them that fill the house of the Lord their God with iniquity and deceit.
14 | [10] And there shall be in that day, saith the Lord, the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a howling from the Second, and a great destruction from the hills.
15 | [11] Howl, ye inhabitants of the Morter. All the people of Chanaan is hush, all are cut off that were wrapped up in silver.
16 | [12] And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and will visit upon the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their hearts: The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil.
17 | [13] And their strength shall become a booty, and their houses as a desert: and they shall build houses, and shall not dwell in them: and they shall plant vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them.
18 | [14] The great day of the Lord is near, it is near and exceeding swift: the voice of the day of the Lord is bitter, the mighty man shall there meet with tribulation.
19 | [15] That day is a day of wrath, a day of tribulation and distress, a day of calamity and misery, a day of darkness and obscurity, a day of clouds and whirlwinds,
20 | [16] A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high bulwarks.
21 | [17] And I will distress men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as earth, and their bodies as dung.
22 | [18] Neither shall their silver and their gold be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord: all the land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy destruction of all them that dwell in the land.
23 |
24 | ## Chapter 2
25 |
26 | [1]Assemble yourselves together, be gathered together, O nation not worthy to be loved:
27 | [2] Before the decree bring forth the day as dust passing away, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord's indignation come upon you.
28 | [3] Seek the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, you that have wrought his judgment: seek the just, seek the meek: if by any means you may be hid in the day of the Lord's indignation.
29 | [4] For Gaza shall be destroyed, and Ascalon shall be a desert, they shall cast out Azotus at noonday, and Accaron shall be rooted up.
30 | [5] Woe to you that inhabit the sea coast, O nation of reprobates: the word of the Lord upon you, O Chanaan, the land of the Philistines, and I will destroy thee, so that there shall not be an inhabitant.
31 | [6] And the sea coast shall be the resting place of shepherds, and folds for cattle:
32 | [7] And it shall be the portion of him that shall remain of the house of Juda, there they shall feed: in the houses of Ascalon they shall rest in the evening: because the Lord their God will visit them, and bring back their captivity.
33 | [8] I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the blasphemies of the children of Ammon, with which they reproached my people, and have magnified themselves upon their borders.
34 | [9] Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrha, the dryness of thorns, and heaps of salt, and a desert even for ever: the remnant of my people shall make a spoil of them, and the residue of my nation shall possess them.
35 | [10] This shall befall them for their pride: because they have blasphemed, and have been magnified against the people of the Lord of hosts.
36 | [11] The Lord shall be terrible upon them, and shall consume all the gods of the earth: and they shall adore him every man from his own place, all the islands of the Gentiles.
37 | [12] You Ethiopians, also shall be slain with my sword.
38 | [13] And he will stretch out his hand upon the north, and will destroy Assyria: and he will make the beautiful city a wilderness, and as a place not passable, and as a desert.
39 | [14] And flocks shall lie down in the midst thereof, all the beasts of the nations: and the bittern and the urchin shall lodge in the threshold thereof: the voice of the singing bird in the window, the raven on the upper post, for I will consume her strength.
40 | [15] This is the glorious city that dwelt in security: that said in her heart: I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desert, a place for beasts to lie down in? every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
41 |
42 | ## Chapter 3
43 |
44 | [1] Woe to the provoking and redeemed city, the dove.
45 | [2] She hath not hearkened to the voice, neither hath she received discipline: she hath not trusted in the Lord, she drew not near to her God.
46 | [3] Her princes are in the midst of her as roaring lions: her judges are evening wolves, they left nothing for the morning.
47 | [4] Her prophets are senseless, men without faith: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have acted unjustly against the law.
48 | [5] The just Lord is in the midst thereof, he will not do iniquity: in the morning, in the morning he will bring his judgment to light, and it shall not be hid: but the wicked man hath not known shame.
49 | [6] I have destroyed the nations, and their towers are beaten down: I have made their ways desert, so that there is none that passeth by: their cities are desolate, there is not a man remaining, nor any inhabitant.
50 | [7] I said: Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive correction: and her dwelling shall not perish, for all things wherein I have visited her: but they rose early, and corrupted all their thoughts.
51 | [8] Wherefore expect me, saith the Lord, in the day of my resurrection that is to come, for my judgment is to assemble the Gentiles, and to gather the kingdoms: and to pour upon them my indignation, all my fierce anger: for with the fire of my jealousy shall all the earth be devoured.
52 | [9] Because then I will restore to the people a chosen lip, that all may call upon the name of the Lord, and may serve him with one shoulder.
53 | [10] From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, shall my suppliants, the children of my dispersed people, bring me an offering.
54 | [11] In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proud boasters, and thou shalt no more be lifted up because of my holy mountain.
55 | [12] And I will leave in the midst of thee a poor and needy people: and they shall hope in the name of the Lord.
56 | [13] The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed, and shall lie down, and there shall be none to make them afraid.
57 | [14] Give praise, O daughter of Sion: shout, O Israel: be glad, and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
58 | [15] The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies: the king of Israel, the Lord, is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more.
59 | [16] In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not: to Sion: Let not thy hands be weakened.
60 | [17] The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, he will save: he will rejoice over thee with gladness, he will be silent in his love, he will be joyful over thee in praise.
61 | [18] The triflers that were departed from the law, I will gather together, because they were of thee: that thou mayest no more suffer reproach for them.
62 | [19] Behold I will cut off all that have afflicted thee at that time: and I will save her that halteth, and will gather her that was cast out: and I will get them praise, and a name, in all the land where they had been put to confusion.
63 | [20] At that time, when I will bring you: and at the time that I will gather you: for I will give you a name, and praise among all the people of the earth, when I shall have brought back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.
