├── CONTRIBUTING.md ├── README.md └── LICENSE /CONTRIBUTING.md: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | # Contributing to Unity Container libraries 2 | 3 | You can contribute to Unity Container with issues and PRs. Simply filing issues for problems you encounter is a great way to contribute. Contributing implementations is even better. 4 | 5 | ## The Contribution 6 | 7 | Project maintainers will merge changes that improve the product significantly and broadly and that align with the feature roadmap. 8 | Maintainers will not merge changes that have narrowly-defined benefits, due to compatibility risk. 9 | 10 | The Unity Container is used by many companies and products and we reserve right to revert changes if they are found to be breaking. 11 | 12 | Contributions must also satisfy the other published guidelines defined in this document. 13 | 14 | ## DOs and DON'Ts 15 | 16 | Please do: 17 | 18 | * **DO** follow generally accepted [coding styles](https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/blob/master/docs/coding-guidelines/coding-style.md) (C# code-specific) 19 | * **DO** give priority to the current style of the project or file you're changing even if it diverges from the general guidelines. 20 | * **DO** include tests when adding new features. When fixing bugs, start with 21 | adding a test that highlights how the current behavior is broken. 22 | * **DO** keep the discussions focused. When a new or related topic comes up 23 | it's often better to create new issue than to side track the discussion. 24 | 25 | Please do not: 26 | 27 | * **DON'T** make PRs for style changes. 28 | * **DON'T** surprise us with big pull requests. Instead, file an issue and start 29 | a discussion so we can agree on a direction before you invest a large amount 30 | of time. 31 | * **DON'T** commit code that you didn't write. If you find code that you think is a good fit to add to Unity Container, file an issue and start a discussion before proceeding. 32 | * **DON'T** add API additions without filing an issue and discussing with us first. Unity team adheres to generally accepted guidelines described in [.Net Runtime API Review Process](https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/blob/master/docs/project/api-review-process.md). 33 | 34 | ## Breaking Changes 35 | 36 | Contributions must maintain `API signature` and behavioral compatibility. Contributions that include `breaking changes` might be rejected. Please file an issue to discuss your idea or change if you believe that it may improve code. 37 | 38 | ## Suggested Workflow 39 | 40 | We use and recommend the following workflow: 41 | 42 | 1. Create an issue for your work. 43 | * Reuse an existing issue on the topic, if there is one. 44 | * Get agreement from the team and the community that your proposed change is a good one. 45 | * Clearly state that you are going to take on implementing it, if that's the case. You can request that the issue be assigned to you. Note: The issue filer and the implementer don't have to be the same person. 46 | 2. Create a personal fork of the repository on GitHub (if you don't already have one). 47 | 3. In your fork, create a branch off of master (`git checkout -b mybranch`). 48 | * Name the branch so that it clearly communicates your intentions, such as issue-123 or githubhandle-issue. 49 | * Branches are useful since they isolate your changes from incoming changes from upstream. They also enable you to create multiple PRs from the same fork. 50 | 4. Make and commit your changes to your branch. 51 | 5. Add new tests corresponding to your change, if applicable. 52 | 6. Build the repository with your changes. 53 | * Make sure that the builds are clean. 54 | * Make sure that the tests are all passing, including your new tests. 55 | 7. Create a pull request (PR) against the unitycontainer/xxxx repository's **develop** branch. 56 | * State in the description what issue or improvement your change is addressing. 57 | * Check if all the Continuous Integration checks are passing. 58 | 8. Wait for feedback or approval of your changes from the owners. 59 | 9. When owners have signed off, and all checks are green, your PR will be merged. 60 | * The next official build will automatically include your change. 61 | * You can delete the branch you used for making the change. 62 | 63 | Note: It is OK for your PR to include a large number of commits. Once your change is accepted, you will be asked to squash your commits into one or some appropriately small number of commits before your PR is merged. 64 | 65 | Note: It is OK to create your PR as "[WIP]" on the upstream repo before the implementation is done. This can be useful if you'd like to start the feedback process concurrent with your implementation. State that this is the case in the initial PR comment. 66 | 67 | ## Commit Messages 68 | 69 | Please format commit messages as follows (based on [A Note About Git Commit Messages](http://tbaggery.com/2008/04/19/a-note-about-git-commit-messages.html) 70 | 71 | ```shell 72 | Summarize change in 50 characters or less 73 | 74 | Provide more detail after the first line. Leave one blank line below the 75 | summary and wrap all lines at 72 characters or less. 76 | 77 | If the change fixes an issue, leave another blank line after the final 78 | paragraph and indicate which issue is fixed in the specific format 79 | below. 80 | 81 | Fix #42 82 | ``` 83 | 84 | ## Contributor License Agreement 85 | 86 | You must sign a [.NET Foundation Contribution License Agreement (CLA)](https://cla.dotnetfoundation.org) before your PR will be merged. This is a one-time requirement for projects in the .NET Foundation. You can read more about [Contribution License Agreements (CLA)](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contributor_License_Agreement) on Wikipedia. 87 | 88 | The agreement: [net-foundation-contribution-license-agreement.pdf](https://github.com/dotnet/home/blob/master/guidance/net-foundation-contribution-license-agreement.pdf) 89 | 90 | You don't have to do this up-front. You can simply clone, fork, and submit your pull-request as usual. When your pull-request is created, it is classified by a CLA bot. If the change is trivial (for example, you just fixed a typo), then the PR is labelled with `cla-not-required`. Otherwise it's classified as `cla-required`. Once you signed a CLA, the current and all future pull-requests will be labelled as `cla-signed`. 91 | 92 | ## Building and Debugging locally 93 | 94 | To build and execute project locally please follow these steps: 95 | 96 | * `git clone https://github.com/unitycontainer/unity.git` 97 | * `cd unity && git checkout develop && git submodule update --init --recursive` 98 | * open solution in Visual Studio and build 99 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /README.md: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 2 | # Overview 3 | 4 | The Unity Container (Unity) is a full featured, extensible dependency injection container. It facilitates building loosely coupled applications and provides developers with the following advantages: 5 | 6 | * Simplified object creation, especially for hierarchical object structures and dependencies 7 | * Abstraction of requirements; this allows developers to specify dependencies at run time or in configuration and simplify management of crosscutting concerns 8 | * Increased flexibility by deferring component configuration to the container 9 | * Service location capability; this allows clients to store or cache the container 10 | * Instance and type interception 11 | * Registration by convention 12 | 13 | ## Installation 14 | 15 | Install Unity with the following command: 16 | 17 | ```shell 18 | Install-Package Unity 19 | ``` 20 | 21 | Unity 5.x loosely follows Semantic Versioning — minor releases may introduce breaking changes. [Floating version references](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/nuget/consume-packages/package-references-in-project-files#floating-versions) should lock in the minor version in addition to the major version: 22 | 23 | ```xml 24 | 25 | ``` 26 | 27 | ## [Documentation](https://unitycontainer.github.io) 28 | 29 | The documentation is a work in progress. Some info is available [here](https://unitycontainer.github.io) but more is coming... 30 | Feel free to [open issues](https://github.com/unitycontainer/documentation/issues) in [Documentation](https://github.com/unitycontainer/documentation) project with all the questions you would like to be covered or questions you might have. 31 | 32 | ## Packages & Status 33 | 34 | Unity library consists of multiple packages. For the purposes of this definition, 18 | "control" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the 19 | direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or 20 | otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the 21 | outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity. 22 | 23 | "You" (or "Your") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity 24 | exercising permissions granted by this License. 25 | 26 | "Source" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications, 27 | including but not limited to software source code, documentation 28 | source, and configuration files. 29 | 30 | "Object" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical 31 | transformation or translation of a Source form, including but 32 | not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation, 33 | and conversions to other media types. 34 | 35 | "Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or 36 | Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a 37 | copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work 38 | (an example is provided in the Appendix below). 39 | 40 | "Derivative Works" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object 41 | form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the 42 | editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications 43 | represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes 44 | of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain 45 | separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of, 46 | the Work and Derivative Works thereof. 47 | 48 | "Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including 49 | the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions 50 | to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally 51 | submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner 52 | or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of 53 | the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted" 54 | means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent 55 | to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to 56 | communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, 57 | and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the 58 | Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but 59 | excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise 60 | designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution." 61 | 62 | "Contributor" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity 63 | on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and 64 | subsequently incorporated within the Work. 65 | 66 | 2.
